Here I go again... W1 R1

Hi. My name is Andy. I graduated from C25K a couple of years ago, but had to stop running a few months later due to a torn calf muscle. Six months later prostate cancer intervened, leading first to surgery, then when that wasn't wholly successful, a course of radiotherapy which ended just before christmas. I now need to get fit again, having put on a couple of stone since I stopped running. So finally this afternoon, having put it off repeatedly, I dug out my running shoes, looked up the C25K programme and set off to do W1 R1, accompanied by Mrs S. Much to my surprise, I actually managed to run for the full minute without struggling, the full 8 times, after which I was pretty tired, but the lungs and legs felt really good. More to the point, I felt better about myself than I have at any point over the past rather cr*ppy year. Can't wait for Tuesday and W1 R2!

I found this forum really helpful and supportive first time around, and was delighted to find it's still going. Hi to all my fellow newbies, and particularly to anyone else going around again.

Well done, Andy. As you know from the first time around, the first time around W1R1 is the biggest and in some ways, hardest, step.

Having had my own confrontation with the evil C, I can relate to the feeling better about yourself part.

All the best.

Welcome back to the forum, Andy! I'm glad that you found the first run easier than you anticipated - and sorry that you've had such a rubbish time. I'm looking forward to reading up on your progress through the course. Is Mrs S going to set up an account here too? The more, the merrier... :D

So glad that after such a tough year, you are getting back out there! Having been on this forum for the last 18 mths, I can say it is definately still the place to come for advice and support and most of all, others who understand the journey. Good luck!🙂

After a hellish year it's great to see you take a positive step, great job. You know the plan works and you'll be re-graduating sooner than you know it.

Wow, Andy, sounds like you need the leave that year behind you in a big way! You're a real inspiration to get through it and to have the drive to come back to C25k. I hope returning to the programme is helpful to you - I'm sure it will be as it already sounds like you're feeling positive about it. You know you can do it, we know you can do it, now all you need to do is do it. :)

Wow. You are truly inspirational. I haven't had to deal with the crap you have but like you i used to run but i just got lazy and gave up, two years on and 2 stone heavier, I've decided to try again. I really didn't enjoy running, not the pressure from friends or my own pressure to be better than i was, this time I'm going to try and enjoy it without the pressure! Good luck and keep posting how you both get on. W1R2 tomorrow for me :-)
