Advice for race on Sunday please

Hi all, doing a 5k race for the first time on Sunday. I'd planned to run Friday, have a rest day Saturday and run Sunday. Now someone has suggested I just walk on Friday and rest until Sunday. This means I will miss a run which concerns me as in the past I've found the following run tough. Also should I be eating differently before the race? Thanks in advance. This is my official graduation run (although I've run a few 5ks already)

You should be ok to run as usual on Friday - you could make it a lower effort, not go all out. You should definitely NOT eat differently before your race, stick to your normal routine. The day of a race is not the time to change anything as it may upset your stomach. Make sure you are hydrated, which starts the day before your race.

Good Luck for Sunday, hope all goes well.

It depends on your level of fitness ( and only you know what that is) - and just how much effort you are going to put into this race. For me, I wouldn't hesitate to run 5Ks on the second day after having run another 5K -- but if the next event was to be a PB attempt, I would have a 2 day rest before the attempt. A PB attempt is meant to be running to your maximum effort -- so you need to be well rested for that.

Thanks. Yes not going for a pb, just looking to run it without stopping. Been training for six months for this and don't want to jeopardise it in any way

Go for your run as usual on Friday, keep it an easy one, perhaps even a bit shorter especially if its hot. You said yourself when you miss a run you find it hard when you do get back out there so don't change your routine. Make sure you are well hydrated and carry some water if weather forecast looks like a hot day. If your race is a different time than you are used to running try and eat some energy food at last a couple of hours before. All the best for Sunday and do be sure and tell us how you got on.

Totally totally gutted! Didn't manage to run all of it. It was so hot and there was little shade. I couldn't find a nice pace and my heart just wasn't in it! 6 months training and no cigar! Oh well think I'm going to go to the local park run next week and have a rematch!
