When you breathe make sure you properly exhale all the air you breathe in. Take long slow breaths in and out through your nose. you are light headed because you are not breathing properly. Whilst breathing in push your stomach out, by doing this means your are breathing correctly. Read up on some breathing techniques. I promise this will help. Take care x x x x

Hi Sheffield - you're hyperventilating - actually taking in MORE oxygen than you need, which is why you feel light-headed and faint.

Try this:- breathe In 2 3 4 Out 2 3 4 - keep it going.

Or this: Breathe in through your nose, then out through your mouth as if your blowing - but slowly, not as if you're trying to blow all the birthday cake candles out! ;)

If you have a PAPER bag (NOT a plastic one lol!) - hold it over your nose and mouth, and breathe in and out, inflating the bag like a balloon, then re-inhaling from the paper bag.

There's some more stuff on here - hope it helps:-

Good luck - been there, done that, and it's horrible, I know, but the above techniques do work!

Hi Sheffield,

Hope you've started Rose's breathing exercises. They really do work.

I went through such a patch with this my colleague put paper bags in the first aid kit at work!!!!

It's a horrible disorientating experience but it does go away.

Hope you feel better soon,

Love,

hi rose lizard i dont feel like i am hyperventilating not breathing fast or heavy just feels like i cant breath in deep enough as tho theres no air and my head feels light and tingly still is this normal guys n girls makes me so nervous its so weird will try bag thanks your so good with me xxxx

If you're hyperventilating you won't be breathing heavily, just lots of little breaths and more than you need. It's really hard to judge your breathing yourself; often I only know I'm doing it when I have to take a huge gasp which is my body trying to re-establish normal breathing. This happens quite a lot!!!! And yes, the light headedness and tingly feelings are all perfectly normal.

It takes a while to get the breathing exercises sorted but they really do work. They've been my lifeline for years and I can usually stop a panic attack by using them.

Don't worry, love, it goes go away.xxxx

Hey, been there, we understand - people who haven't, don't! One doctor brought me out of a panic attack over the phone by this trick - only works if you have a clock/watch with a second sweep hand - not a digital one. If you have got such a clock/watch, look at the second hand, then - breathe in as it goes from, say, 5 to 10, then out as it goes from 10 to 15, in as it goes from 15 to 20 - and so on!! Honest, one dr stopped a panic attack in its tracks, over the phone, getting me to do that!!! Hope this helps!

Love and good luck, you're NOT alone!

Hey Sweetie,

You're really not going mad. Or least ways if you are you're in very good company!!!!

Seriously though, I was in my teens when I first started getting panic attacks, mainly at night and coupled with horrendous nightmares and really strange thoughts. I was sure I was going mad so I didn't tell anyone. Certainly not my doctor in case he confirmed it!!! How daft can you get?! If I knew then what I know now I'd have been beating his door down.

Keep shouting, love, till you get the help you need.

It does get better.xxx
