Does anyone get the shakes/shivers after a bad panic attack? And also what have people found the most effective medication for anxiety/panic attacks?

Hi tintin

Sorry you are feeling crap at the mo , think part of it you have answered you have been run down & when we get low our anxiety can creep back , hope once you feel fit in yourself again this will improve & your anxiety will calm down again , meantime be kind to yourself

Yes I would talk to GP about meds , you will have to let us no how you go on , what works for one sometimes doesnt for another & with your medical history they will be the best to advice you

Take a hanky to put over your nose while you are waiting ...you dont want to catch another bug ;)

Normally, doctors prescribe benzodiazepines like valium or diazepam for rapid relief. However since these are quite habit-forming, some people are given anti-depressants for long term management of anxiety/panic attacks. Antidepressants have a calming effect but with some mild side-effects like sleepiness, tiredness, and so on. I wish you well.

Thanks everyone! Thats helped loads. I think more than anything I am just in shock!! I cant believe how quick it can return & with what effects this has. Also I have had very different symptoms of anxiety this time, acute dizziness and really struggling with my breathing? As many of you know, it makes you so exhausted, it takes me time to rally myself around again. Hope everyone is looking forward to the Spring & the lighter evenings as much as me! Take care all x x x

I am on 40mg of prozac (& xanax - when needed) & it's given me my life back after 2 years of what felt like hell. The first two months are tough but it's genuinely brilliant after that. Do 10 minutes of breathing exercises in the morning & just before bed - surprisingly helpful. In through the nose & out through the mouth. Slow, deep breaths. I'm a 23 year old male, just shows you anxiety can affect anyone.
