I have recently started playing netball again, haven't played since I was 10/12 yrs old I'm now 27. Iv been trying to push myself to get back out in the world stop being a hermit at home. I'm off on a long distance netball tourniment on the 24th of this month and coming to realization that I have never been away from my family EVER and been feeling very nervous and anxious about this trip. But yet also feeling excited as i am also gaining my independence back, guess I'm just looking for some type of reassurance about my decision, lately iv been having trouble swallowing my food 🙄 and I know it's due to my anxiety. Does anyone please have me any tips or anything.

Hi Kens2. I think your decision is the right one to go on the trip. You will gain some independence, and even if it causes you anxiety, it is a step in the right direction. With each step you take to go places on your own, you will gain more independence every time. If an outing becomes difficult, maybe ask a friend to go with you for that 1 trip. Then the next time, go by yourself. You can always have support from other people around you, so if something becomes too much, lean on them for guidance. Eventually (if not with this coming trip), I think you will be able to go out by yourself and will enjoy being free from what is holding you back now.
As far as the swallowing issue, I had the same problem yrs ago. I had to blend my food... If you don't think about swallowing, I think it will be easier to eat. You may be concentrating on it too much when you are anxious. Just be.
Thank you Scc1 I very much appreciate your response and definitely will be giving it a go, yes I will try that blending up my food, I can drink easy just not my food atm hoping it won't be a problem when I go on my trip 😬
Hello
Well done this is brilliant that you are taking netball up again as well as this is the start of taking back control over what anxiety has taken you are letting it know now that you are in charge and not the anxiety
I have trouble swallowing when I am anxious and feel like food gets stuck the only advice I can give you and what I do is eat small pieces take your time and chew your food really well
I hope you let us know how you get on with the netball and I think you have made a real positive decision , I hope you enjoy it x
