Hi Gleddoch, I don’t have much experience with twitching and claustrophobia, but I wanted to comment and show some support. I did a quick search on youtube, and there are a plenty of videos that talk about MRI’s and claustrophobia. You could even search on youtube about your twitching and see if someone has some tips for you on that as well. I really hope that helps, and hope you feel better soon!

Do NOT Google or search anywhere on the internet about muscle twitches!! It is a very common anxiety symptom, but it is also a symptom of a rare disease that if an anxious person convinces themself they have it, their anxiety could spiral out of control.

Talk to your doctor about your muscles twitches, before doing any Googling or web search about the subject.

Explain your anxiety and claustrophobia to the MRI techs, they will provide you with headphones and mirrored googles that force your line of sight out of the machine towards your feet.

That should be really easy then. I have had numerous head, neck and spine MRIs all the way in the machine for over an hour, with those goggles on you can actually pretend ur not inside.

Your anxiety is making you hyper focus on your twitching and blow it out of proportion and it sounds like you are dealing with health anxiety. I suggest you check out the youtube videos of Paige Pradko, she is a therapist that healed herself of it and now helps others to heal, she also has online courses available if you are interested. Another one to check out is Matthew Codde at restoredminds.com he is also a therapist that had OCD and health anxiety and healed himself and now helps others.

Hi, Gleddoch. They have open MRI scans. I think they are more expensive to get (??), but you can check it out to see if your insurance covers it.
