MAGNESIUM: hello, has anyone taken magnesium... - Anxiety Support
MAGNESIUM
Yes, I have taken magnesium when struggling with insomnia. For me it works better than melatonin. I have not had any stomach issues with it. I can only tell you my experience. If you are on any medications you might want to check and make sure it will interact well with them.
I added that to my daily supplements when I was having what I thought was leg issues. It didn't do any good nor harm. Turned out I had a sciatica so it was not muscle. I kept going with it for a while and saw now benefit. If you are finding that it works but upsets your stomach they have a cream that is easy to use
I've tried Magnesium Glysonate and Magnesium L-threonate. I would say I thought the L-threonate was doing something, I had slightly better memory. I wouldn't say either has done much though tbh.
Yes I take it for muscle and joint pain so far it’s not upset my stomach. I’m taking a combination of the different types but I believe one type might cause stomach problems more than others but can’t remember which one. I’m also using a magnesium body spray for muscles. That’s helpful and only localised. Have you tried that?
A Magnesium supplement - in tablet, or capsule form is only helpful if your body has a deficiency. If you are having a well balanced diet, your body will make enough of this 'mineral' to keep your body healthy, and have an adverse effect. It can be dangerous to exceed the amount needed to keep your muscles strong and healthy. Before taking this type of supplement you should consult your doctor, who will - if he/she is on the ball, organise a blood test to ensure how much your body does or doesn't need. The pain and discomfort of muscle can be relieved by regular walking/cycling - and gentle exercises to keep the muscle tissue pliant and strong. If you are going to take a magnesium supplement regardless, ensure you buy from a reliable source, and get the correct 'type' for what you need. There are various types, magnesium citrate, magnesium oxide, magnesium glycinate, magnesium malate, magnesium sulphate, and magnesium chloride. There are different forms - i.e. cream to rub into muscles, salts to bathe in, tablets, skin types. Therefore before you take anything make sure you get the right sort. Go to a good supplement store not the usual high street branches, but choose one where a qualified physician is in attendance, and also ensure whatever you are taking does not disagree with any prescription meds your GP may have you on.
I started taking magnesium supplements to try and help with my fibromyalgia. Only been on them for two months and sadly don’t seem to being doing anything to help but they have not caused me any stomach problems.
I take magnesium glycinate at night before bed along with a few other supplements to lower cortisol to reduce anxiety and aid sleep. I don't have any digestion issues this way.
Been taking mag glycinate for years before bed, along with tumeric. Don’t take mag citrate- that’s more for loosening your bowels.
I use Mg citrate. I take 50% of the RDI. I do think it helps with muscle tension and sleep. I haven’t had any GI issues. High doses can cause diarrhea and cramping. (Source: Mayo Clinic, accessed today).
I’ve been using Magnesium supplements for quite sometime. I feel that it just helps with muscle tension and overall relaxation. I feel it helps with anxiety. It takes the edge off. SAMSON
