Although I don't have the answer to this I'm very keen to see what others have to say. Aniexty and IBS are the two major obstacles in my life

Can some one please explain ibs to me? And what its like and how it starts?

IBS is Irritable Bowel Syndrome and can go both ways in terms of constant or bouts of diarrhea or constipation. Other symptoms vary from person to person, some may have stomach cramps and others might feel sick. The term IBS is used to frequently in my opinion as it's a big umbrella. Someone could have diarrhea as part of their bodies flight or fight system and then become anxious all the time on it. (me) while others might just have an intolerance to certain food types. There is so many symptoms and causes its hard to list it all.

That is exactly me too, I worry I won't make a toilet or something then all of a sudden the cortisol and adrenaline kicks in and then I need to go. It's really debilitating

Snap ! it's really horrible isn't it When I'm at home I never give it a thought so I don't think I can call it IBS It's just a nightmare if I don't know where a toilet is when I'm out and the panic is awful

Its my only anxiety it started as I had a tummy bug at work and didn't quite make it to the loo in time No one saw me and no one knew but it was so awful to me

Now even though it was a bug and it isn't going to happen when I'm well the fear of it wont leave me

Yes it is so debilitating I'm dreadful anywhere where I'm "trapped" waiting room dentist hairdressers meetings etc

The check out in a supermarket is a nightmare too

I feel so ashamed and can't tell anyone except my husband and one really close friend

I'm sure there are thousands like us and we aren't alone

I do understand X

There is a good relaxation video on You Tube on IBS by Michael Sealey

I'm subscribed to him, Paul Mckenna does some good ones too😀 I've done hypnotherapy, CBT, medication etc and the only thing that truly works is taking action and doing what your fear is holding back. It just takes a long time, I'm alot more confident now but I still get anxious where ever I go or think about an event coming up. It's a constant battle in my head that I refuse to loose. Just got to keep plugging away at it

Hello Aaron yes you are so right just have to keep plugging away I have never stopped doing anything because of it have you ? I keep pretty cheerful too no one would ever know I suffered

Yes I'm like that when something is coming up although I am a lot better and have started to look forward to things more now

We recently went away to celebrate my son and his girlfriends birthdays to a cottage 13 of us When it was booked last year I thought how will I get through it and all the outings with everyone I was absolutely fine so it was a real triumph for me

It is a constant battle isn't it but it's so lovely to read that you are doing everything you can to help yourself I've done similar but not CBT

I have recently bought the book DARE by Barry McDonagh and he covers our problem I've found it a huge help It also has a free app with motivation and realaxtion audios so I can listen to it anywhere and it does help I got it from Amazon

Thanks for replying and here's to a full recovery for both of us

I hope you will stay in Touch I'd love to know how you get on

Take care

Hey so I suffer bad neck pain and headaches due to anxiety (muscle tension) and someone told me to try magnesium oil on sore areas and apparently if you are magnesium deficient it will tingle on your skin which in my case it did tingle and it relieve the neck pain and headaches.

Magnesium oil can also be absorbed through the skin thus increasing magnesium levels in the body.

Apparently magnesium deficiency can cause a range of symptoms for people which I found out through a naturopath. A lot of people don't realise they aren't getting enough magnesium so I guess it wouldn't hurt to try it

I D on the other hand is not something I am familiar with but I know at the chemist you can buy a product called "IBS support" by a brand called "ethical nutrients" and I have heard it works well for those that experience IBS

Hope this helps :)

Just over 3 months ago I started taking magnisium to help treat my chronic tension headaches (everyday 24/7 headaches and muscle tension). I also have developed an increased amount of anxiety which I'm in the process of starting to treat. I take 2 capsules before I go to bed. Im not entirely cwrtain if it has done much but i continue to take it. I have always had a case of undiagnosed IBS and what I have done within these past months is changed my diet. I eat alot of fruit, protein (meat, chicken, fish) and vegetables. I have cut out dairy products, processed sugar, caffeine, gluten and products with aspartame. I have seen great results from this. I know this sounds like a big commitment but it gets easier as you go along. Trust me I never thought I could do this kind of diet but I am and it's great! I have also been taking nortriptyline now for almost 3 weeks for the chronic tension headache but haven't noticed any improvemention yet but this med is also used for people with ibs. I hope this helps a bit and keep us posted!
