My body feels like it's completely shutting down, has this happened to anyone?

Hi,

So the last two days my body has completely gone in to shut down mode. I feel weak, extremely exhausted, can't stand up for long periods of time, when I do I feel that I want to drop to the floor.

I feel sort of spaced out and light headed, scared, tension all over. When I walk it feels weird.

I'm not "anxious" as in I'm having an anxiety or panic attack but the best way I can describe it is that my body feels like it's dying. I'm drinking plenty of water, eating, electrolytes, sleep.

I cannot explain it any better than that.

I've seen a doctor, bloods are being done next week but I really think my body is shutting down.

Has anyone experienced this before?

Please help.

You may be sick or coming down with something. It is good that you have seen a doctor. See what the blood tests show. If they don't show anything in particular, see what your doctor thinks. There may be some additional tests that you should have. It is also possible that you are very depressed. I have read your post in the anxiety and depression site. I am very sorry you feel this way, but keep in mind that you are young and there is help.

Have you seen a psychiatrist and considered antidepressants. Admitting yourself to a psychiatric facility may also be a good option. If you do so, make sure it is at a very good, one, preferably a teaching hospital, as that is where you will get the most help. It is worth traveling to find the best hospital. You can be admitted through the emergency room given the fact that you are so depressed and ill. You may also want to consider a brief spell of anti-psychotic medications. These can be provided, at a very low dose, along with antidepressants at a good inpatient facility.

I am glad you have come to these sites. Please keep posting and let us know how things are going. I care, and others on the sites will care, as well. xx b1

Hi bbanxiety. My name is Mary, I am 74 years young and would like to reassure you, what you are going through is perfectly NORMAL - at this time. I say 'at this time' because for the past ' 2+ years ' our lives have been rocked by the threat of COVID, we have had to adjust to a different way of life. We are now going through a 'time of transition' - that is adjusting to a new normal. We are going through periods of fear, and other emotions as we continue this unusual journey. Like you, I have experienced all of those things that you have mentioned. Just three weeks ago I went through this and actually telephoned my GP and asked for a face to face appointment. Fat chance of that! She did ring me back though, asked me for symptoms, gasped when I told her I kept feeling that I was just going to sit down and die. That is how low I was feeling. I do not want to die, and would not take my own life, but those words were the only words I could articulate. Her response was, 'That's a serious thing to say, you need an urgent blood test!' I'm still waiting for that blood test. In the interim time I have come to the conclusion that I must help myself. I am a committed Christian and a 'Counsellor' to people with mental health issues. That is how I know just how bad the situation is for many, not just in this country, but world wide. I work alongside many people in similar distress, and try to be positive. Although I am happy to supply Biblical passages to help people - I am also mature enough in my faith to know NOT to force GOD onto people at this time, so please don't think I am trying to preach to you. (Equally if people seriously want to know about GOD's healing, I can help them.) What I think may be helpful to you is to develop a way of meditation that is right for you. There is a series of information on MINDFULNESS, that many find helpful. Try to turn all of your negative thoughts into positive ones, - your body will readjust in time, and you will find your strength returning. Try to keep away from medication, as this if not used properly can make you feel worse. Make sure you drink plenty of (no-alcoholic) liquids during the day and maintain a healthy eating regime. I have overcome cancer twice, stroke, heart problems, severe panic attacks that would last weeks rather than minutes (I was on medication for more than 35 years for panic - they made me like a zombie) Now I use prayer and mind over matter. Works for me. Most important is for you to know your body in a way is dying, cells die all the time, but they are replaced just as quickly, but you are not dying, When you feel as though you're going to fall - sit yourself down, be safe, read something interesting or listen to a piece of music you like - you will come through. If I can be of help - reply here

I haven’t experience the exhaustion but the lightheadedness and weird feeling when walking are both there, had it for over a year or so. Saw all the doctors, they said it’s anxiety/stress. It’s hard to believe it but pretty much everything else has been eliminated.

I’d wait for the bloodwork to come back before you jump to any conclusions, it could be a viral infection of some kind

This may sound weird but did you get your ears checked? I had a similar 'drunk feeling' for a while while walking or standing and it actually ended up being an ear issue. Since I am generally a ball of anxiety I pretty much also thought I was dying and/or it was anything else besides my ear of all things but might be worth a look. Hope you feel better.

By chance I saw my Ear doctor last week, he sent me for a VNG Test, most of it was fine but I actually had an abnormal result on the balance part of the test. Apparently both my inner ears have been damaged. He doesn’t know the cause but said it’s most likely down to a virus. He’s prescribed me vestibular rehab, which I’m starting this Wednesday, I’m praying this is the answer, it’s been so long. I believe my anxiety exasperates the issue as I’m ears feel full when I’m anxious.

Do you remember what your ear issue was?
