My pet rat, Ralph, is suffering from a heart problem, and is dying. He is one year old.
He has been such an amazing pet, and emotional support. I just found out today that a surgery would do little to correct the issue, and that we are going to need to make a VERY quick decision whether to humanely euthanize.... it just feels wrong to put something to death; even if he is suffering greatly. Ugh!

im so sorry to hear this, i actually just lost all of my rats in the last few months. 3 of them were old age, unfortunatly one was younger, but had a tumour that was causing her pain, the vet said it was a risky operation, and since the other 3 were being put down it would be unfair to leave her on own so we put her down too. it was awful putting something down when she seemed so young and happy but it was what was best for her by far. she was the sweetest of all our rats. i know how you feel and its awful. again, im very sorry.
If your pet is suffering it is best to put him to sleep. It is an awful decision but as a loving owner it is the right thing to do and you can say goodbye properly . Take care and whatever you decide Ralph knows you love him x
Thank you, everyone, for your kind words and encouragement. I had Ralph put down about an hour ago. It seems unreal, and I'm heart broken. But in the end, it was the correct decision for his terminal illness. Here he is about a year ago, in prime health. RIP buddy.
