Mental confusion!

I am in a fog like state where i can't process, understand or grasp things by reading, viewing or listening. Its like my mental functions have been slowed down or mind is exhausted. I can't think or concentrate on reading work, i feel confused, lost in thoughts, unreal, dizzy, blank, stare a lot and so on.. I am totally disabled due to it. I can't read a single sentence and comprehend it while i am having this foggy episode. I feel detached, blank. Anyone has this severe level of mental dysfunction or brain fog? Just to mention,i don't feel anxious or depressed as such, i just have this fog. So, i highly doubt its mental illness issue. Need advice. Plz help!

You're mental fog could be caused by a number of reasons. You need to go see a doctor and tell them your symptoms so they can help direct you to the right resources for your particular cause.

How old are you, diet you follow, other meds you take, and when did you start to notice it? Of course only a doctor can diagnose you, but when was the last time you saw your doctor and did you have blood work? Could be something as simple as a vitamin deficiency, or could be something way more complicated.

You don’t say if your on meds but I have been there before and after meds improving now. You managed to write post so not unable to put your thoughts down on paper. I found that when I was bad I couldn’t write properly. I would hold the pen awkwardly and it was like a child had tried to sign. I was an avid reader and had not long taken a college course at HNC level and gained and A. Suddenly I just couldn’t do anything, like you say not present, when I was present there was very little difference as I could not retain anything. I can read something over and over and still not retain it

I have been searching for answers to explain why I’m ill and how to combat it but it’s 6+ years now and I know an awful lot sometimes, at others I’m blank. I can be involved in a conversation ( remembering words is a nightmare ) and then later on I start the same conversation again having absolutely no clue I have already done so

Fir a while I actually thought my family were teasing me and we hadn’t had the conversation.

So you are not alone , I would however, go get a check with your doctor as other conditions may be in play and if they are quick diagnosis is best

Good luck x

Like the others, I can’t say what might be causing this.

I just wanted to say I have experienced similar in the past few weeks (although seem to be coming out the other side of it thankfully) and my therapist felt it could have a mental health cause.

I struggle sleeping, I am often dehydrated and I am often anxious (not always in a complete panic, just low-level near constant anxiety) I’ve also been very busy and quite stressed recently. Not to mention, this is generally a hectic time of year.

Confused and exhausted (not the same as ‘tiredness’) are the main ways I’ve been describing myself recently. It’s not a pleasant experience. I’ve been REALLY forgetful and even managed to crash my car (thankfully not seriously) the week before last. My therapist said it’s a bit like I’m not really ‘present’ in the moment and I agree.

Go and see a doctor but definitely don’t rule out mental illness as the cause of this - try and find some time to do things that are good for you - eating properly, getting enough sleep etc

Take care,

Eleanor

Researches just discovered a major cause of neurological disorders. They found a very high level of brain damaged people in Guam. These people were eating bats boiled in milk, wings and all - a cultural dish. What was wrong was that the bats were infected with cyano bacteria. This bacteria manufactures a toxin called "BMAA" which unfortunately mimics the amino acid "L-Serine".

When the body makes protein with the BMAA (instead of L-Serine) it doesn't fold properly in the brain and causes Alzhimers, ALS, Parkinson's and dementia. The solution was to give large doses of L-Serine to the patients. The L-Serine overwhelms the BMAA and the body is able to make healthy protein.

So, we are all being exposed to this cyano bacteria and we are all in danger of brain damage. To prevent brain damage, I'm taking 2000 mg of L-Serine each day. Here is the link to the research:
