Has anyone ever felt true panic when they require medical tests?

It has not been established yet but I may have to have a CT scan and an MRI. I am terrified. I've had one CT scan about 5 yrs ago and was allergic to the contrast dye. I broke out in hives all over & was terrified they would also go into my throat and mouth. The nurse gave me 2 Benedryl and I had to wait until they stopped appearing. I have had 1 MRI and somehow got through it, no contrast dye but I'm clausdrophobic and thought I'd die. I've never been prone to headaches but for a week now it's like my head is going to burst along with my stomach, plus nausea ^ off balance. I know I'm getting ahead of myself. My question is: are any of you allergic to the dye and if so what did they give you prior to the test?
