So I’m still in high school, going into my senior year, and I’ve been taking college classes online. The idea of college has always excited me because I could finally be who I wanted to be and meet new people. I’ve been at the same school for almost 14 years so I don’t get to meet a lot of new people. But I never really thought about the new environment. I’m making myself take one on campus class to ease my way into college but it’s scary! Having been at my school as as long as I have, I’ve never walked into a classroom and not known anyone. I’m having a mixture of excitement and dread! Excited because maybe just maybe I can meet someone know but dreading it because I’ll be all alone. I did consider trying to take a class with a friend but then I wondered how much good that would be. I worry I wouldn’t branch out and socialize. I feel like a freshmen walking into high school but this time I don’t have people I’ve known forever around me. I know that i can do it and that once I get a routine I’ll be fine but the thought is still daunting. I mean I have to go up to the college to take a little test and THAT scares the crap out of me!
So anyone that has social anxiety or anxiety, how did you handle your first day of college?

I think what you are doing is great. Try and remember everyone in that room is in the same boat. They don't know anyone either and are probably just as nervous.
It is a chance to step away from the life you have created so far. This is a chance to create new friendships with all kinds of people. You no longer have to be with the same people day in and day out. Your world is expanding. I'm excited for you!
Hi this is part of growing up and taking your first steps into the adult world. This is incredibly scary but also exhilerating so don't be afraid to take it. x
I have social anxiety and meeting new people is hard for me sadly but I’m sure we both will make lots of good friends, what do you want to do like career wise?
And I’m sure the therapist career will work out. Like I said you have a great perspective on mental illness so you can offer them things others may not be able to.
