Sertraline & Diazepam

Hi guys. So after dealing with really high and intense anxiety again, my doctor has prescribed me with Sertraline & Diazepam.

Of course i am terrified of the side effects and increased anxiety for the first while. I know everyone is different and it affects everyone differently. I have just heard so many bad things 🤦‍♀️ the 6-8 week period of it getting into your system seems so long and honestly im terrified. Has anyone started this medication and can share there experiences with me? Thank you

Not yet, too scared 🤦‍♀️

Maybe it's what is making you feel worse in the morning?

I'd feel the same as you, scared to take the medicine... Just letting you know that you are not alone.

Yeah it probably is 🤦‍♀️ thank you so much. Im going to ask to change meds so hopefully they can prescribe something else

in reply toFighting-Soul

Yes, for what makes you feel better, get them changed.

I hate meds can sometimes make things worse.

I was on Fluoxetine a few years ago and these did help. So find i will be comfortable starting these again.

Yes until they build up into your system, then can make things worse which is what scares me

in reply toFighting-Soul

Good idea, stick to what you know.

I usually refuse meds now as they have never done me any good, just made me feel worse.

You are FAR from alone --I am scared of every new med. I take & takes me months to even try & most times, I just can't. I ask my doctor to start me on the lowest dose so that way it's less likely that I will have a reaction I don't want! If you have someone at home with you, all the better. Now that I am alone, it's Much more scarier. Oh, I probably am not helpful, but you are NOT Alone with these med. fears!

Hi! It’s nice to know I'm not alone!

I changed back to the meds i was on a few years ago and started these again today, so hopefully not too long before they start kicking in. Do you take any medication at all?

Hope your well x

Yes, I take seven different meds. & wish that I had not ever started on some of them. I take med. for thyroid (my thyroid was radiated & the radiation "killed" the thyroid gland), I take meds. for diabetes (doctor wants me to chg. meds., but I am afraid to), I take meds. for high blood pressure, I take a Beta blocker for heart arrith., take Effexor for OCD & Anxiety (lots of side effects), take Ativan (only med. that works, but doctor says I am addicted), take a med. for cholest. (cut that in half), -I am a "Mess!"

Hiya. I'm on week three of sertraline and xanax (I was on that a bit longer and starting to come off it) so slightly different but I can tell you about my experience. There are some bumps for sure and I don't think my anxiety will ever go away fully but I'm noticing an improvement in my mood and I'm sleeping better (also on sleeping tablets which kind of worked). The funny thing is the thing that really made a difference is 30 minutes on a treadmill each day, that helped my sleep which helped everything else. I worked up to 30 minutes walking at about 100 steps per minute. The only other thing I heard is avoid grapefruit when you are on that combo and alcohol also is something you want to avoid. Hope you feel better soon and I'm sure you will.

diazepam works straight away, but highly addictive. Sertraline takes a while to get in the system. I hope you find a way through this.

l think that’s sensible. I wish l had been years ago as l got addicted and it was hell getting off the things. If you really have to take them, only take them for a few days, or now and again. Hope you will soon be feeling yourself again. Take care.

I have been taking Sertraline 100mg for several years and have had no problems with it whatsoever…I’ve not had a panic attack since I’ve been taking them

I hope I am allowed to say this because it has helped me to regain some control of my anxiety :-

I signed up to ‘ Calm ‘ it’s less than £1 a week and they have so many different ways of coping with anxiety etc

I especially like the sleep stories they are people telling stories about all sorts of things…famous people - ordinary people -relaxation guides and a variety of calming noises

I find it really helps me to switch off the worry worms in my head and get off to sleep …I have never got to the end of a story and the app switches my tablet off at the end ! One story about a boy going on a journey was so captivating I had to listen during the day to find out how it ended

A lot of the storytellers have got lovely voices especially Michael Bubble and the Jerome half of Robson and Jerome …you probably aren’t old enough to remember them !

I trust my Gp they do their best to help us …anxiety can make us doubt ourselves and the people around us

Try not to forget that people who voice their opinions on the internet are people who have had problems with their experiences…for every person who has had a bad time there are thousands of people who are happy with their care and medications…they don’t post how satisfied they are do they. ? …perhaps they should. ?
