Fast heart anxiety

So I have a fast pulse majority of the time (between 85-150bpm) apart from when I’m very relaxed (60-70bpm). I have been to the doctors and had 2x 24 hour heart monitors, a 5 day heart monitor and a 7 day heart monitor along with an echo gram. All my results came back as ‘excellent heart funtion’ Apart from my heart monitors saying fast heart rate. No matter how much reassurance the doctors have given me, I am so so worried about my fast heart rate. I am petrified I will have a cardiac arrest! Does anyone else have this problem? And if I had a heart problem surely they would have picked this up? I suffer with anxiety and I am now constantly checking my pulse.

Hi Luceecain, and that's how anxiety starts.. Mine started the same way many years ago.

Test after test, ER visits and prognosis was the same "your heart is okay, anxiety is making

it beat fast". I became focused on my heart, checking pulse every moment I could. How

can you not when a racing heart feels sooo bad.

It wasn't until the last time I was in the ER for fast heartbeat (200bpm) did things change

for me. As they monitored and watched me, I asked if I could just have a small dose of

Xanax that I felt might help. I was given a low dose and within 15 min converted

back to a normal sinus rhythm. It was then that I realized what anxiety could do in a

healthy person. It was psychologically caused. After low doses of medication and therapy I no longer felt the skips or fast h/r and the fear went away just as fast as it

came on.

You are not alone with these signs of anxiety. I hope you are able to find a way to break

the cycle of fear with your cardio phobia. Wish you well. :) xx

Than you so much!! It is horrible and it’s hard to make yourself realize that it won’t harm you! Still to this day I’m adamant I will have a cardiac arrest, it’s horrible 😞 my heart also beats very hard a lot of the time (intense not fast) and this scares me too!! It’s reassuring to hear other people experience it too xx

Lots of people have this anxiety about the heart, you have been told your heart is excellent so stop worrying about it.

Good morning , Yeah that’s surely anxiety. As we get anxious our first response is to produce excess adrenaline and as it’s not being burned off or out to good use it rises your heart beat ready for battle or flight mode. Then of course the worry sets in which makes matters worse..... ( Anxiety )

So this is perfectly normal and there’s no harm what so ever in your heart beating that fast as your heart is one of the strongest muscles in the human body and can withstand a hell of a lot. Healthy hearts don’t have heart attacks either and if you hearts beating slow or fast or even missing beats without any medical concerns then it will be just fine.

My anxiety is random and not linked to anything so it was very hard to pin point that it was in fact anxiety. I get a fast beat , slow beats ( annoying ) and even skipped beats and it’s 100% down to anxiety and worry.

As our other friend had said it’s mind over matter. Your heart is guided by your mind and although an important body organ it’s one of the most simplest things in terms of its structure and function.

Don’t worry my friend and as you worry less the heart rhythms will fade away.

Our hearts are built to handle the fast pace, the fast heart rate would normally be a cause if you were in your flight or flight mode but like you and I, it’s out of whack and just beating fast because of our anxiety. Really just remember our hearts can handle very rapid bpm (obviously not crazy fast) and that you will be fine. I thought my heart rate would cause me to have a heart attack but that would be if my heart stopped! I had all the tests done like you (for different reasons although I was and do have this problem) and everything always came back in great shape.

I really hope that helps calm your nerves!
