Anxiety or heart problems

Just a question - i get rely bad heart palpitations and missed beats everyday. I also get really quick heart rate without panic attacks and sometimes very slow with many missed beats. Had ecg and 24 hour tape. Revealed fast heart rate. Some palpitations but said heart is okay. Now i just want to ask if anyone else has this. Is it just from anxiety or could it be a heart problem. I no you can get this with heart problems and have cardiac arrest. I hope it is just anxiety but will anxiety do all this even when not panicking

Hollie, the answer is Yes anxiety can give you all the symptoms you mention and if your doctor said that despite the palpitations etc your heart is okay then it must be anxiety. If you're not 100% convinced ask your doctor for a second opinion but if the diagnosis is the same then you must accept it.

I get missed beats from time to time, they're not really missed beats but urregular spacing of the beats which feels like missed beats. Earkier this year I had an event which made me anxious coming up and 3 days before I began to get the irregular heart beats. But because I'd had it before and knew it was anxiety and knew it was harmless and would pass I FELT NO FEAR. And because I felt no fear it stopped one day after the anxious event was over.

But if I had stressed and obsessed abiut it I would have generated the fear hormone which would have ensured that this symptom of anxiety to continue. So I recommend that you accept these symptoms for the time being, accept them without fear knowing they are just your nerves playing up and they are harmless and will pass so long as you don't stress about them.

Hollie, you have nothing to worry about, you're not going to have cardiac arrest and die young, put that idea right out if your head. You will be fine, all will be well with you and knowing what you know now they will soon pass. But you must Accept them for the present, calmly and without fear.

hollieedridge in reply toJeff1943

Thank you this is re assuring. Now you say yours is more irregular spacing than missed beats i dont no if this is what i have or missed beats. I do try an accept it but its very hard

Jeff1943 profile image
Jeff1943 in reply tohollieedridge

No Hollie, what I meant to say is that what feels like missed beats to us isn't really missed heartbeats but slight irregular spaces between beats.

hollieedridge profile image
hollieedridge in reply toJeff1943

Is this harmful

Jeff1943 profile image
Jeff1943 in reply tohollieedridge

Not harmful in 99.9% of cases and you are not the .1% as you have been examined by quaified medical people.

Did it go irregular for 5 or 10 seconds ? Like up doen middle down up them normal??

Jeff1943 profile image
Jeff1943 in reply toContra21

In my case it was just one "missed beat" in every 10 or so, then the gaps widened and it ceased. If you are concerned best see your doctor for reassurance.

I have a persistent tightness in my throats like I'm suffocating when I am anxious. That's how my anxiety manifests itself physically. I've gotten checked and everything is fine. It's a huge pain in the ass as it's extremely unpleasant, but for me that's all it is... more anxiety bullshit. I wish you the best. There is loads of help out there. Help = Hope. Just that thought gets me through a lot.

My EKG showed I had a atrial fibrillation but when I undergo echo cardiogram all is well again I tried to retest my EKG showed normal but there was a non specific st wave changes they wanted to test me a 24 hour ECG holter I do have anxiety and I'm on xanax do you visit your cardiologist to perform some test

Yes, I do, hollieeldrigde. Have for quite some time. The ‘missed beats’ feel awful, and I have a rapid heart rate as well. As I have suffered from anxiety most of my life, I know it is anxiety causing my symptoms. You may want to ask you Dr about getting further testing such as a holter monitor or stress test just to be certain, if you haven’t already. Take care.

I have been with anxiety and heart pounding for many years, just had three days of irregular heartbeat and doc has put me on a beta blocker, very scary I know and yes I keep thinking this is it! I’m a gonner at the worst times, have quit caffeine always had veggie/ vegan lifestyle but still off and on with cigarettes. I hope blockers will calm the bumps and jumps soon. Matt.

Staying very hydrated and taking 300-400mg of magnesium everyday will help. I used to get palpitations especially during my period. Now, I rarely get them. I wake up and drink 16oz of water and always keeps bottles of water with me through out the day. The magnesium and fish oil help greatly. Also, maybe your blood sugar drops if you don’t eat. That can cause them too. My doctor suggested a few snacks throughout the day strictly protein without the carbs. Nuts, beans, yogurt, chicken, turkey, etc. Anxiety will cause these issues. if you have had a cardiologist run tests and they cleared than accept the results and don’t second guess. Get a second opinion if you really want to be sure though. I had an echocardiogram, stress test and wore a holter for 24 hours. There were two times where my heart rate went up to 130 but when he asked me what I was doing I didn’t have an answer. One of the times it was at midnight when I was most likely asleep and possibly dreaming. He said that even a fast heart rate is ok if you have a healthy heart.
