Body shaking/vibrating for over a month now šŸ˜“

So at the end of January I must have got a mild stomach bug or food poisoning...woke up in the middle of the night feeling very hot and nauseous...never vomited (I have a fear of vomiting) or had diarrhea. With my fear of vomiting my anxiety gets worse so what I did was take acetaminophen to lower my temp, took pepto for my stomach and played some games on my phone to calm and relax me. I felt better within 20 min and went back to bed. The next day I was feeling totally fine but the days after this started, my stomach still had that funny feeling as if you have a stomach bug but it wasn’t making me feel nauseous and I still had an appetite. Then I noticed I started getting very shaky one day at work. Thinking it was from not eating for a bit I had a snack but it wasn’t going away like it normally does. I just sort of brushed it off and kept my mind on work and it ended up going away. The weekend after I started getting my symptoms, I was getting shaky again. I felt like I had no energy whatsoever but could still go on with life. This is when I started getting nervous thinking there is something serious going on. I started googling symptoms which I know I shouldn’t be doing but I do this constantly when I feel there’s something wrong. I instantly thought stomach cancer. I decided to make an appointment with my doctor. I couldn’t wait to see him so I went to urgent care just to be safe. He thought it to be gastritis and then wanted to do a blood test and glucose test on me because of the shaking. Blood test came back fine, just a little dehydrated and malnourished (I was only eating bland foods for those past couple days and was starting to lose my appetite because of the worrying). My glucose came out fine as well. I had a CBC, lipase and metabolic panel done. When I saw my primary care doctor, I told him I’m expecting the worst thinking it’s something bad. He pressed down on areas of my abdomen and listened for sounds and said the sounds were normal. Right away he said anxiety. Now I know I’ve always had anxiety and I believe mine is more of health anxiety/hypochondria. I get nervous when it comes to anything health related or my loved ones health. A little background behind me: I work in retail as a manager and I was just getting out of the crazy holiday time and this holiday was very stressful for me. I was also having some issues with my car (getting something fixed then another problem would happen) and they couldn’t seem to pinpoint what was going on so every time I would drive it, I’d get nervous that something would happen. Anyways, I was referred to see a therapist. At this point, I was not hungry at all only eating little snacks here and there. I even stopped drinking coffee thinking it was from caffeine even though I’ve been drinking the same amount every day for 10 years. Days later, I started getting better when it came to my stomach. I was finally eating whole meals and had my appetite back. But now I started feeling dizzy and off balance. This lasted about 2 weeks so I went to see my doctor about it. The shaking mixed with these symptoms made me think it’s neurological. When I talked to him about it, he still said this is anxiety and suggested I need to be medicated for it. He said it’s up to me if I want to be referred to a neurologist. I said yes just so I’ll feel better knowing what’s going on. I still have not had my appointment yet so I’m still waiting to see. I’m no longer feeling dizzy but the shaking is still going on. I just want to be back to normal. My shaking is not as bad as it was when it first started. I was feeling more fatigued in the beginning but the shaking is not interfering with my life. I’m still able to lift heavy items which I do a lot at work and I’m still able to exercise with no problems. I’ve noticed I don’t really feel the shaking when I’m at work because my mind is focused on other things which is great but when I’m at home and laying down, I can feel it. I also feel it more when I’m just waking up which is a little scary. Could this really be from stress and anxiety? If so, my anxiety has never been to this extent before and I’ve never had body shakes and vibrations up until this past January. šŸ˜“

Sounds like anxiety to me! I too am a sufferer and have very similar symptoms. Although I was sceptical at first, mindfulness really helped. I suspect you only start shaking after you’ve woken up, rather than waking up shaking. If so, take a look at some of the calming apps on you tube (search for anti anxiety) and spend 10-15mins doing deep breathing exercises. It really helps. Failing that, it might be worth going on a course of anti-anxiety/depressants, not only to make you feel better but also to convince yourself it’s in your head.

Thanks for replying. My shaking happens all day actually. As I’m typing this now laying down, I’m not really feeling the vibrations so I don’t know if it’s because I’m just relaxed. The fact that this has been going on for so long now, I think that I’m sure if it’s real serious, I probably wouldn’t be typing this right now or I’d be having other symptoms tying in with this. Just waiting to see what the neurologist will say. I truly hope that this is just anxiety.

I have been through the same tests and got the same results. Everything fine and it's anxiety. I have had the same symptoms as you. It's crazy but when you get pre-occupied, you forget about them and they go away. I've had enough doctors tell me it's nothing wrong that I've learned what the symptoms feel like and try not to worry about them anymore. Sometimes it's really hard, I understand.

Yeah when I get preoccupied with work, most of the time, if I’m not thinking about it, the vibrations aren’t there. I am seeing a therapist and wanting to try medication so hopefully it’s going to help me. It’s been so difficult to trust doctors and what they say. I’m the person that always thinks the worst case scenarios such as ā€œwhat if my blood test was done wrong?ā€ and ā€œwhat if they got my blood test mixed in with a different patient?ā€ Really trying hard to get through this. If this is anxiety, I never thought it could be this bad...

I get the trembling and vibrations too and it spilled the hell out of me. I assumed Parkinson’s or something really bad and seen a neurologist like you and they said was just anxiety and in my head. The waking and falling a sleep vibrations are also quite common and happen to me. I worry about them a lot and seem to be worse when I’m tired. I get shakes in my chest and legs some times when I feel anxious or sometimes just for no reason what so ever. Have you seen anyone about the vibrations or trembling since ?

I just started seeing a therapist last week. Haven’t been medicated yet. I actually see a nurse for that next week. I am doing a follow up with my primary care doctor in a few weeks. I was actually never tested for my thyroid so I’m gonna ask to get tested just to rule it out. I don’t see a neurologist until the end of May...earliest he was available which is fine since he’s not someone I need to see ASAP.

I think we can all relate to this. And this is kettle calling pot black but ....,, DONT GOOGLE. google isn’t a doctor and no matter what you google it will give you an answer. Try googling ā€œSymptoms of nothingā€ and it will still give you horror stories. It’s hard I know as I still do it sometimes thinking I’ll just have a little peak. And then your on it for hours self diagnosing. If google was the be all and end all we wouldn’t need medical school.

Hope you get better soon.
