Unending Dizziness

I've spoke to a couple people about constant dizziness on here, but I'm wondering if anyone has gone through this and recovered.

I started getting dizzy 24/7 after trying Lexapro 4 months ago. It's a sensation of seasickness. As if I was rocking back and forth on a boat all day. At first I thought it was a side effect of the medicine, but now I believe it is just my constant state of anxiety. Test come back negative for vestibular disorder.

I feel like once I find the right SSRI and calm myself down the dizziness will fade, but I still worry that maybe the dizziness is here for the longer term.

Has anyone gone through constant dizziness then recover once they got a handle on their anxiety?

I haven't recovered but I have seen lots of stories of those who have! Dont give up :) p.s. the reason I havent recovered is because I havent found the right med either. Staying determined though.

Thanks for the reassurance. I'm wondering if my anxiety is giving me MAV, because I have frequent headaches as well. I heard Effexor XR is good for that, but I'm trying prozac first.

Yes Effexor is a good one for MAV. But Prozac could work also, good luck! Let me know how it works for you :)

Sure thing! Have an appointment with my psychiatrist soon. So maybe I can get some relief soon 😊

I used to have constant dizziness and it has subsided. I still have the occasional dizzy episode, but it is no longer 24/7. Once my anxiety settled the dizziness faded.

That's great to hear! How long were you dizzy 24/7? What helped best for anxiety relief?

It was a good year. What helped me the most was accepting the dizziness for what it was...anxiety. For the longest time I kept thinking it had to be something more. Once I accepted it and told myself that it was “old news” and I wasn’t going to worry or focus on it anymore it slowly stopped. There was a book I read, I’ll look for it and come back with the title for you, that basically said who cares if you’re dizzy or whatever other sensation is happening; and to make a silly story out of it to yourself. So that along with the accepting helped a lot.

Thanks. I'll work on that.

Did you find the book

Yes! It is called (pardon the language) Badass Ways to End Anxiety & Stop Panic Attacks by Geert Verschaeve

Hi Jpsur760,

I'm in the same boat as you. It's been 2 months that i've been dealing with constant dizziness. I've been on zoloft for 5 weeks but it doesn't seem to help with the dizziness.

I also get headaches which I usually take a tylenol and it helps a bit.

I get the headaches too and take tylenol...I'm wondering if it's vestibular migraines as well as anxiety

Do you get headaches daily? How do they test for vestibular disorder?

I had an appointment with an ent today but he doesn't think the dizziness is

related to my ears.

I took a VNG test for vestibular disorder, but it came up negative... I think vestibular migraines might not show up on that though... Honestly we probably just have high anxiety that's causing the headaches and imbalance. I've read about many people suffering from the same thing.

Yeah, sounds about right. It's very annoying though especially when there's no relief from it.

I totally hear you. It's the most debilitating symptom for me. From the moment I wake up it hits me.

Same here.

I honestly miss the days when I would just have intense panic attacks, but feel okay inbetween... Now I just always feel foggy headed and off balance.... We'll get better though! It will take time

Yes I was dizzy for months. The symptom went away for a long time and came back when my anxiety ramped back up.

Jpsurf760 in reply toAnxiousdude

So I'm assuming when you first dealt with it, it was because anxiety as well? Are you currently dealing with the 24/7 dizziness?

Anxiousdude profile image
Anxiousdude in reply toJpsurf760

No it actually went away. I started working on stuff in my life and that got better. I’m having a lot of weird aches and pains so it definitely could be better

Jpsurf760 in reply toAnxiousdude

Well glad to hear your dizziness went away at least. Have you ever tried medication for anxiety?

Anxiousdude profile image
Anxiousdude in reply toJpsurf760

Yeah I have. My psychiatrist actually recommended that I don’t because I do better off if it. I have just in case lorazepam.

Jpsurf760 profile image
Jpsurf760 in reply toAnxiousdude

Gotcha. Yeah, it's nice to have that benzo in case any major anxiety pops up.

Anxiousdude profile image
Anxiousdude in reply toJpsurf760

True. It’s so hard for me to tell what is my anxiety and what isn’t now. Anxiety sucks.

Jpsurf760 profile image
Jpsurf760 in reply toAnxiousdude

I totally feel you on that. I feel like if I ever actually have something wrong, I'll just assume it's anxiety now haha
