How do you guys deal with anxiety? I can somewhat stay calm when I feel an attack coming on but I get numb and just want to run away. I have noticed I have gotten better at fighting them and standing my ground and almost embracing them to try to overcome them but I always get really quiet when this is happening. People often ask what’s wrong at this point and I almost want to burst into tears. I have been especially anxious lately since about to be starting a new career, my motorcycle just blew up on me so that’s a hefty fix, and my girlfriend and I are new to this whole distance relationship thing while she’s at school. Some days I feel I know I have it control and others I just don’t know. Then I worry about my health. My brother was diagnosed bipolar schizophrenia and that’s makes me paranoid for my mental health. Am I bipolar? Is what I’m feeling normal? Who do I talk to? I’m scared to find a doctor to talk to because a) I’m scared of being told something I don’t want to hear. And b) I can’t afford a doctor...

Sounds as though your adrenals have taken a hit. Try an adrenal glandular supplement ( cortex only ) - nutrimeds etc. They are expensive but worth it.
Thank you so much! I will try anything at this point. I appreciate it
No problem. I have also heard excellent reports of an amino acid called l theanine . I have some on orider so I will be the guinea pig and let you know if it helps . Take care xx
I have tried L-thianine to counter the effects of too much cortisol. I tried it in tablet form and did not find it halpful. It may be different for you. I tried it in Green Tea tablets (a much smaller dose of L-Thianine) and this did not help. However when I drink green tea I have convinced myself I notice an improvement so I start the day with a mug of geen tea. Explain it I cannot!
Dirtbiker, if you are experiencing anxiety disorder you need to neutralise whatever it is that has caused your anxiety and to do it ruthlessly. The cause is known only to yourself but it's important to counter whatever is causing your nervous system to become over sensitised.
The best way to deal with anxiety once established is to do nothing. Your mind and your nervous system are perfectly capable of repairing themselves but require a period of peace and quiet to do so.
Do nothing - do not fight it. You say you have been fighting your anxiety attacks: fighting only causes more stress and tension which are the very opposite of peace and quiet.
Do nothing - stop frightening yourself half to death every time you feel a symptom coming. Simply accept the symptoms for the moment with as little fear as you can. Constantly remind yourself that they are fake symptoms and are not due to physical illness. They are not life-threatening and will not disable you. Neither can they make you lose your mind - anxiety is a nuisance but does not have the power to injure you in these ways. Anxiety is good at mimicking the symptoms of serious illness but does not show up on scans, blood tests or x-rays. It is fake and not worth fearing.
Do nothing- do not try to avoid it or distract yourself from it. Let it come to you and then pass through it accepting all the symptoms for the time being. Occupation is good if you have anxiety disorder but don't try to lose yourself in distraction as you cannot accept it if you are hiding from it.
One thing you may find useful is to take advantage of your body's natural tranquillisers during an attack. Breathe in slowly through your nose. Hold your breath for 5 seconds. Release it slowly through pursed lips. Repeat several times.
Remember, your mind and nervous system are waiting to heal you, just don't get in their way, accept the bad feelings as fearlessly as you can. Let time pass, you spent a lot of time getting into this state, allow a little time at least for your nervous system to repair itself. There are no quick fixes outside the world of pharmaceuticals.
I wish you well on your recovery.
