Been ok yesterday and today but now all of a sudden I felt like this weird feeling over me just don’t feel myself how does panic attacks just come out of nowhere! That’s the scary thing because they can just happen whenever now I’m thinking it’s something serious my chest feels so tight! People without anxiety really don’t get it like my brother says calm down what are you panicking about I don’t understand why ur panicking over nothing .. when I go into a panic attack I littarly jump up and down and SCREAM I CANT BREATH IM GOING TO DIE does anyone else do this no matter how many times I have them I still feel like I’m about to die each time .. like my auntie says you need to breath and I’m shouting I am breathing she saying your shutting your mouth , why do they say you need to do your breathing during an panic attack what would happen if your such in a state you can’t do your breathing technique will you die? I generally feel like I’m like this because my worst fear is DEATH so scared of it and especially all my life I just see people I love mostly die around me , spoke to a doctor over the phone AGAIN she said just up my sertraline from 50mg to 100mg and to talk to talking therapy, I hope everyone is doing ok x

Well your on the rigth track for sure and yes that's what it is.and I do the same thing too it scares me . lay on the floor head on the cool floor slow your breathing down as best as you can. Pray or say I'm ok I'm ok over .good luck hope my way works for you

Hi, I was hospitalised a few years back because I couldn’t breathe and kept having to take deep breaths. They x-rayed me and my lungs were over inflated because I was over breathing. They said it was anxiety. It’s happend a few times,

Every day for the last year I get adrenaline. I can be just sitting there and a bad thought comes into my head Or I feel like the air in my nose is mildly tight and a feeling of sickly fear washes over me. You know What I do now??? I just let it happen and just keep saying to myself this will be over in a minute and it always is. I don’t let myself dwell on it else it will take over my entire life.

Have you ever tried breathing into a paper bag?? Google it, it really can work. I used to keep a paper bag and used it when I could feel a panic attack coming. It helps calm you down.

One thing you must keep remembering is that it cannot hurt or kill you to have a panic attack. Yes they frighten you and yes they are scary but they are not in any way related to death. Nobody has ever died from a panic attack.

Also have you tried contacting your local MIND charity? I was really bad 6 months back and called them and they gave me a councillor straight away. It’s over the phone but speaking to someone that knows how to help you can be a game changer.

Meds help but so do talking therapies to get to the bottom of your issues and work through it. MIND are a lifesaver, they helped me when the NHS didn’t.

Yeah I’m waiting for CBT but it’s such a long wait, also everytime I have a panic attack I just make it worse run around screaming! It’s awful the feeling x

And re your chest pain I had chest pain for 20 odd years. When it first stared they did ECG and all heart tests all normal. But I still kept getting pain right in centre of my chest. Turns out it was costochondritis completely harmless but just painful. I used to get severe sharp pain down my arms too... it was trapped nerve in my neck. I kept going to hospital with the pain for years until I finally accepted that it wasn’t my heart.. I should have listened in the first place because the doctors were right and I was wrong and caused myself years of worry and misery about a heart problem I didn’t have!

If you’ve had tests trust me it’s not your heart.

That’s what my doctor told me I had costochondritis! But it’s just an automatic reaction if you have chest pain you think it’s your heart I get pains all round my ribs feel like I get shooting pains in my heart and my heart flutters the last couple of weeks got pain in middle of my chest and doctor said over a phone it’s costochondritis x

in reply toKaaayla

Ask him to give you some anti inflammatory drug for it. It helps!

Where do you get the pain with your costochondritis?x

in reply toKaaayla

Mostly right in centre of chest, but I can be anywhere on sternum or ribs. One good way to test is to press where you are getting the pain...if it hurts when you press down it’s never heart related ... x

Thankyou pamziepam!.. what painkillers do you think are the best that help you?x

in reply toKaaayla

I would speak to your doctor. Ask for anti inflammatory which eases the inflammation in the joints and cartilage. Best to get these meds on prescription as they will give you the best med for that condition. X

I had a ECG the other day also would it of shown anything if there was something wrong with my heart x

in reply toKaaayla

Definitely... I went through everything you are going through when I was 20. I couldn’t breathe either but it was the anxiety from thinking the pain was my Heart. No doctor could convince me these pains wasn’t my heart.

In the end the doctor shouted at me to wake me up and shouted “this is not your heart, the ECG would have picked up an issue if it was”. I had loads of ECG because every time I got the pain I’d go to hospital. Well I’m now reaching towards 50 and still here. I wish I could go back and tell my younger self not to worry. All that worry was a waste of life. Honestly if you press your chest and it hurts, that’s Where the pain is coming from. If it was your heart and you were getting this kind of pain the ECG would have picked up the issue right away.. Also if it was your heart you wouldn’t be alive with that kind of pain.

I know it’s not easy but you need to accept that the pain is costochondritis. The fact it hurts when you press your chest confirms that 100%. X

Hello :-)

People that don't suffer with anxiety will not understand because anxiety can only be felt by someone that is suffering and it is something that no one can see so to them it is simple but for us it is a lot more complex than that , if only it was easy to calm down

But you are getting on the right track and from a couple of days ago I think you have made such huge progress because I know how hard this is and you should focus on the little things you have done but to us are huge :-)

Look at this like a jigsaw , finding all the little pieces till it is all put together and makes one big picture , you are slowly picking up the pieces and with each one the picture will get bigger on how to over come this and as it does you will feel better and more able to cope , now and again you may loose a few pieces of the jigsaw or struggle to find them but you will :-)

When we are having a panic attack it is hard to do our breathing techniques in fact it feels impossible and no if you can't do them you will not die , your panic attacks will maybe feel worse and take a little longer to over come but no one has died to my knowledge because of a panic attack

A good idea is to practise your breathing techniques when you are feeling calmer and then they will become easier to use when you need them during a panic attack

Health Anxiety for a lot of people is triggered by loosing someone they love and in your case more than one person but because you have been through that trauma this does not mean that you will die because you won't , you have been dealt some terrible things to deal with at such a young age and it has had an impact on you and would for a lot of people but you can and are working your way through this and I have every faith you will succeed :-)

Keep doing what you are doing , you are a very strong young lady even though you may not feel like it at the moment but you are :-)

Take Care x

Thank You :-) x

Look up "Dr Claire Weekes" she was a truly amazing lady who helped so many of her patients overcome anxiety, you can find some of her talks on YouTube and her books are still selling on Amazon, please just check out her work, my own recovery began when I bought one of her books recommended by a friend, Ive never looked back, and even now years later if I feel any anxiety or panic creeping back, I listen to Claire Weekes on YouTube, it really does help. The thing to remember is, "the symptoms of anxiety are unpleasant...but not dangerous" you have survived each and every panic attack and you will continue to survive future ones, they always pass eventually, just use that inner voice we all have and tell yourself that this will pass...be patient...don't try and fight it...your going to be ok....anxiety has makes you over sensitized and so you become stuck in a cycle of fear....your not alone many others understand and feel those very same fears xx

Kaaayla, so sorry that you are having panic attacks. None of us can do anything about death. I find it's easier not to think about things beyond my control. Dwell on the good things in your life: a place to live, your five functional senses, ability to walk and talk, air that you breathe. Reading an good inspirational book will probably help keep your mind off yourself. This has helped me: "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change. Courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference." Most of the time we agony over things that will never happen. Prayed for you.
