I kept waking on and off all night but then around 2.30 am I woke and felt strange . I did some deep breathing but then my heart raced and all my stomach and chest went weird and broke out in a cold sweat . It went away as quick as it started . So from then on I had to raise my head with another pillow but had pressure feeling in stomach and as I dozed off I would wake with a jolt . It’s now 8.45 am and I feel just not right internally . Bp and pulse is fine . Does anyone else get this ?

Sleeping difficulties due to weird feeling
Hi Jodz. Sounds like you had a panic attack at 2:30am making it go away as quick as it started. You got scared which tightened all the muscles in your upper stomach as well as swallowing air which gave you that pressure feeling in stomach. Sometimes it will even distend a little.
I just wrote earlier today about severe stress and anxiety causing the hypnic jerk/sleep twitches as well as feeling like your falling/jump in your sleep.
It's the involuntary muscles of your body trying to relax. Your brain misinterprets the feeling and sends signals to tense up muscles preparing you for fight or flight.
B/P and pulse are fine because it's caused by the over sensitized nervous system.
Breathe and do some meditation tonight before going to bed. Wishing you a good night
sleep tonight. If and when that jolt should happen, know that you are safe not in any danger. Just roll over and go back to sleep. xx
Agora THANKYOU . I’m still worrying about it and now it feels like I have something caught in my throat ? It was just not a nice feeling at all and the first time I have had this in bed . I will def try my hardest next time to just roll over and go to sleep . Thanx again .
The silly thing is a worked all day and was a good day , came home had a spa and a cider , cooked tea and watched a movie and had a glass of red . I was so relaxed . Go figure !
Jodz, as your mind gets use to you ignoring the feeling, it will actually learn to accept this as not dangerous and allow you to relax and fall back to sleep. It's a matter of retraining our brain to stop sending up false red flags
Nothing is overnight but it will happen. I'm glad you had a good day and a good evening. xx
Yes I have had that. I sounds like a panic attack.
That’s pretty much exactly what happened to me almost every night for months! Some attacks were worse than others culminating in one helluva experience where I thought I was dying for sure. My heart raced up to 180bpm, I couldn’t breathe right, I was nauseated, hands tingling and numb, felt awful! I woke up my husband and my teenaged daughter so they would be there if I died. They drove me to the local fire station hoping they could do an EKG, but nobody came to the door. My heart was still racing wildly while I sat in the car. They decided to take me to the hospital when i finally began to calm down so we went back home. So yes this happens to other people and to different degrees.
Anxiety can present in so many different ways, so even though it felt different, it’s likely your symptoms were still anxiety. Oh, I am much better. My body has calmed way down! It’s amazing that I hardly think about anxiety any more, and for a couple of years it was all I could think about! Right now, I am camping at a beach far away from a hospital and I am fine. There’s no way I would’ve done this a year ago. I felt like I needed to be close to a hospital “just in case”. It’s SO nice to feel calm and normal again! You will get here too.
