Hi im new to this. Ive probably been suffering anxiety since my dad died in front of me when i was 13. Im now 38 and have finally given in and taken setraline after being given several different medications in the past and been too anxious to take them. Ive been diagnosed with PTSD recently. My teenager is a handful too which makes it worse. After 1 week on themim beginning to feel the benefit already i think. I also have propranolol for the physical anxiety. Has anyone else had setraline? And had it helped?

Hi nfo I'm glad to see you got help and hope it help long term! Have you ever been given or asked for bereavement councilling it may help I eventually gave in and asked for it glad I did it may help to talk about your loss! I wish you well if you want to talk just message me thank you
Thank you for that. Its not only that ive had so much happen in my life. Mum got into a violent relationship after it happened. Moved out young and got pregnant at 21 and was homeless. Im constantly anxious!
Sertraline. Life saver as far as I'm concerned. Been on for 8 months ish now and was scared out of my mind to start it, so very glad I did. Makes everything a little more manageable. I can say, I just don't care about that...instead of obsessing over things.
Hope this helps.
I'm interested in hearing about Sertraline. I've had health anxiety probably since my dad died when I was 10, so around 40 years or so. Only in the last few years did it really become a problem but it was short-lived. My mum died 18 months ago and coping with her house and mine and work has been difficult. I admitted that I had major problems a few weeks ago and my GP suggested propranolol or sertraline. I wasn't keen on starting sertraline as he said I'd need to be on it 6 months. So I'm on the beta blocker - can take up to 3 a day but I find 1 first thing in the morning (40mg) helps and the option to take even half later in the day.
I do find it slows my heart rate down and helps with the sweating and shaking especially when I wake up. I'm hoping that will be all I need but it's good to hear sertraline has positive effects. I've had a back problem since March which made things worse and now I find I have a lot of sleep starts/twitches which stop me sleeping - and of course they cause anxiety and it's a vicious circle. So wish we could just turn our brains off at times!
