Rocking Sensation

I have been dealing with my body rocking for about 2 years now and no doctor has helped me. I believe they think I’m crazy. If you look at me I’m not moving but my body feels like I’m constantly rocking back and forth like on a boat. Can anyone help me ?

I had this last spring. Spent a night in the hospital over it. Was unpleasant. I’m sorry you have dealt with this so long. Mine lasted only 2 weeks, but was constant. Drinking alcohol helped, crazy as that sounds. Try the Eply maneuver, several times, and see what that does. Try seeing an ENT.

That’s for the advice about drinking alcohol because I will try everything to get rid of this. I’m soon going for an mri and maybe that will tell me something.

Hi Fjackson, that "rocking boat" sensation or feeling like you are walking on a trampoline are all a part of the over sensitized nervous system due to Anxiety. It is an extremely unsettling feeling for sure. I use to get that myself, feeling like the sidewalk was giving way with each step I took. Once I started listening to relaxation tapes, my mind and body quieted down some. You are right in that the doctors don't seem to have an answer for it. I never really felt my therapist addressed the symptom. But as another person who suffered from anxiety for years, I will tell you Anxiety is the cause. Our breathing is off when we are anxious. Learning to deep breathe properly as well as staying well hydrated can more than help with that feeling. Planting each foot firmly on the ground when you walk without fear will keep you grounded and in control.

Alcohol is never the answer to mental problems. Alcohol is a suppressant as well as the fact that it dehydrates causing problems. If you are on medication there could be a serious interaction.

I hope you get some relief. Do not fear the sensation, stay positive. xx

Agora is right that if this is anxietyl and not organic, than alcohol is not the answer, at all. Mine was organic and temporary. Different situation. I do hope you feel better

I'm sorry and can understand how difficult it would be to work when feeling like that. As for disability, I don't know what the laws are for mental illness in your state. My daughter who is Anorexic went through an attorney who only got paid if he won the case. Which he did on the first court date. I'm in Chicago.

I know a doctor's note on your disability would help as well as trying several times. I've known people with Fibromyalgia have to go several times before getting approved.

You may try other alternatives in reducing your stress which could be causing the rocking boat sensation. One that I tried which helped was "Self Hypnosis". That could be done by a qualified therapist to get you started and then followed up on YouTube when they have some good videos that walk you through self hypnosis. It seems to be left up to you know to get this resolved. By posting on the forum, you may hear from others who have found some solutions to the same issue. Good Luck Fjackson..wish you well. Stay safe. xx
