Dry eyes can be caused by the aging process or as a side effect of certain medications such as amitriptyline and blood pressure tablets. So if you're on any meds check the printed notes that accompany the med to see if dry eyes are mentioned - it's called the antichologenic effect.

It's the reason anybody with contact lenses can have difficulty taking their lenses out, they stick like glue to dry eyes and sticky tears. The answer to this is to add a few drops of wetting solution to the eye before removing the lenses, it works a treat.

As far as drops for dry eyes are concerned there's a product called Dry Eyes in a small bottle sold at Savers in the U.K that sells for £1 that has exactly the same composition as 'artificial tears' sold at the dispersary if Moorfields Eye Hospital in London and other chemists for a lot, lot more.
