Searching in Claire Weekes

Hello again! I've been feeling down due to my anxiety and I was wondering where in Claire Weekes she talks about this. I have my copy of "More Help For Your Nerves" with me and I was wondering if anyone knew- particularly Jeff1943? Thanks!

Hi Carolyn, in her first book ' Self help for your nerves' uk version/ 'Hope and help for your nerves' us version Weekes has a chapter on Depression, chapter 17, but also refers to it elsewhere in that book. She calls it depletion. On amazon.co.uk the book is available as a kindle download and on both the uk and us amazons the book is available used for just a few £$.

I think that the depression you describe "due to my anxiety" is what I call secondary depression ie we can get depressed about the fact that we are suffering from anxiety.

You have her second book and that's fine but her first book mentioned above is the key book of all the ones she wrote because she sets out the Face - Accept - Float - Let time pass for the first time and in detail, in subsequent books she presumes you've read the first one.

I’m intrigued by this book you talk of!!! I have low mood again due to anxiety after much work stress and change of routine and a few family issues and I’m struggling to get on top of it. Some days I’m fighting fit and others I crash with exhaustion and racing mind etc! I go in to fight or flight! I have had pni after my child 4 years ago where I was severe for about a year. I never thought I’d feel that way again so it’s given me a fright. Like I’m out of control again. I just want to be normal and have the energy again. Iv anti-depressants but holding off on taking as I found it hard with withdrawal last time and swore I’d stay well clear again! Anyone any advice? And is the book good?

Kimple, this book I refer to was written fifty years ago and it still sells by the thousand. That is its great strength, it has more than withstood the test of time. First it will bring you reassurance about the limited power of anxiety disorder, it explains how it is all due to over sensitisation of the nervous system, it brings an end to bewilderment straight away. It's message is acceptance, coexist with all your bad feelings for the time being and most important stop fighting it as fighting causes the strain, tension abd fear that makes things worse.

Go to Amazon, search for the book, read a few of the many hundreds of reader reviews, never was a book of this kind better received year after year after year. 90% of the reviews ratevit Very Good or Excellent. The book promises recovery no matter how long or deep the reader has suffered. You can pick up a used copy on Amazon fir a few bucks or quid, a new copy costs little more. What's to lose?
