Hi Aamir147147, I'm sorry your head pain continues and I know how fearful you are of the symptoms and what you think it may be. However, a Cat Scan ruled out anything serious going on. Taking too many pain killers will just end up keeping the headache in play with rebound headache pain.

The fact that nothing has worked and yet your CT scan was clear, it could possibly be trigger points in your neck causing the pain in the lower back part of your head. Contraction headaches have been known to be caused because of tension. The knots or trigger points are usually in the neck or shoulders and cause what is called as "referred" pain. I lived with that for many years. The only thing that helped was physical therapy where they actually worked on the muscle knots rather than addressing the pain. With the release of the muscle spasms came the release of the daily headaches.

Whenever I feel it come on instead of reaching for an OTC pain reliever, I reach for a heat pak around my shoulders and neck and tune into YouTube and listen to a meditation/deep breathing video for 5-10 minutes. It does wonders. I hope you'll give it a try. I understand how the daily pain is physically and emotional wearing and wish you better days.

Aamir147147, I too had gone to a Neurologist as well as a Rheumatologist where I got dignosed with these trigger points. I have always refused heavy pain pills (will not go that route) and like you the antidepressants used for pain did not help.

It was only "hands on" therapy that proved to be best for me. I wish you good luck with your appointment only 2 days away. Keep strong, keep positive they will find an answer and relief for you. Let us know with an update.

Aamir147147, yes they were at the back of my head. Besides a CT scan I even had an MRI which showed nothing. The therapy was done at the hospital in the out patient physical therapy department. You would be amazed at all the modalities they have in treating chronic and acute pain.

I had about 6 treatments and then was also taught in how to address the problem at home whenever stress was high.

You are doing the right thing seeing a Neurologist. He can at least give you a name for the kind of headache you are experiencing. If he says it's more muscle related that it's true that pain pills will not even touch the pain just make you numb to feeling it.

You will be okay. You are not ignoring the issue but moving ahead to find an answer and get relief. My best.

Aamir, I hear you. I know how difficult it is. You are in good hands with a Neurologist.

I did, my head was always in pain, heavy feeling and lightheaded at times. Physical therapy worked with not only my muscles but the connective tissues. Everything became so extremely tight in my neck and shoulders causing the lymphatic fluids to build up in the base of the skull.

When I would lie down in bed, I would open the fingers of both hands and put them under the base of my head (like a cradle for my head) within moments I would feel the crackling and dissipation of the trapped fluids.

I don't want you to get ahead of yourself. This is what was happening to me and this is how they resolved the problem. You will be evaluated as to what the issue is and it will be addressed. Give the doctors a chance and always stay positive.

I can't remember the last time I had a headache of any kind. I wish this for you as well. :)
