Social Anxiety

'It can only get better' is a phase Ive heard way to many times, one that I don't have a problem with... I mean, It CAN only get better right? However what baffles me is the almost false sense of promise that dwindles each time I hear it. Replacing 'can' with 'will' is a major hardship for me. I'd like to hear if any of you guys have in fact overcome any measures of extreme social anxiety or just anxiety in general... panic attacks, depersonalisation something along those lines...

I truly believe people do get better, it just takes time especially with these illnesses

I have recovered from major depression and feeling suicidal.

Anxiety is the harder of the two I've found, but I'm quite a complex case I suspect. I wouldn't say I've ever overcome it, you're unlikely to find many here who have given the purpose of the forum as they'll go on to have happy lives and not linger her for the most part, but I've definitely had phases of my life when it was in the background, largely under control and not really bothering me. Perhaps a bit like some viruses it seems to stay a susceptibility and can return when you are vulnerable or wounded.

Yeah that makes perfect sense. I suppose its just one of our many flaws that make us who we are. I just wish it stayed dormant forever lol. Thanks for your honesty I hope things are staying positive on your end

Thanks . I'm doing a bit better overall and not panicking about every meal. At least the surgery trigger is obvious. Curious if this time I can crack it more comprehensively.

I'm absolutely sure *some* people can and do cure themselves completely but I suspect that depends on the causes and severity and we are all unique.

Mine are complex and deep rooted, so beating it is a multi decade challenge.

goatnetwork18, it's not a false sense of promise but a 'fact' that anxiety issues can be overcome and not with a miracle. But with you making it happen with acceptance and reversing your thoughts from negativity to positivity. Simple Right? No, it isn't easy, nothing worthwhile in life is ever easy. Stay strong, go forward with a little help from your friends on the forum :)
