Dont want to start drugs !

Iam 17 y old. I have anxiety . Somedays are good while others are worse . Ive heard that doctors prescribe antidepressants for such situations but im afraid that these medications will make me dependant in them . On the other hand I think that my anxiety will never go away on its own , without taking medicine. Cant think straight

Have you heard of CBT therapy? That is good for anxiety it's looking at your thoughts and then retraining your brain to think differently. It's more work with than taking meds but it is what you can use to help yourself long term. And minor tranquillisers are good for anxiety but rarely used cos they are addictive. But I have them for emergencies. Hope that helps.

lllboy, I agree with Anxiouspony12 in that CBT therapy can be beneficial in helping you with anxiety. It does require work on your part. Sometimes we need a little extra "outside" help from medication and that's okay for short term. It can help calm your anxious thoughts and allow you to go forward using other methods/techniques to rid yourself of anxiety.

If meds are used properly under the guidance of your doctor, if should not cause a problem but actually be a benefit. Just remember, popping a pill isn't the answer, it's just a bridge to get over the bump in the road. Good Luck

Hey,, same here, yesterday im worried that im dying, last day im over thingking that i would faint,, today i am good a normal person.... Its very hard but i dont go to a psychiatrist due to i dont want to take med coz i think it will become much worse when i get started that medicine....

My CBT therapist didn't give me meds. He gave me therapy. I hope that sets your mind at ease a bit. A lot of our ideas about therapists come from the media which eggagerates everything. They can offer you meds but not force you to take them.

If you really are not wanting to see a therapist why not google CBT? That way you can find out about it and they do books on it. 😊
