Go back and demand they sort it out. You are the boss when it comes to you and your doctor.

Hi Adamorten,

One of the side effects of Citalopram is the need to frequently urinate. Not every body reacts to the drug in the same way. If you not able to say this is tolerable, do as Jimatom has suggested and go back to your doctor.

There are no guarantees that the first drug or even the second one will work for a patient. The choice of antidepressant used is based on the clinical judgement of the doctor. However, if you do some research you will find there are about 20 different medications to choose from. Knowing this helps to have some more input into discussions about your treatment.

If you are interested, research the STAR*D study which talks about sequence of treatment your doctor will be using.

I take citalopram 30 mg ( have been on it for about five months) and I do pee more than I did before taking it but overall I feel much better since being on the medication, so I am willing to take some side effects at this time. There is a drug called Lexapro that is like citalopram without much side effects so that is always an option if you are feeling less anxious and depressed while taking the med. It does take a while for your body to get used to the drug and usually the side effects wear off. I do yawn quite a bit as well! Good luck!
