Doctors wants me to try a new medication... go figure, has anyone tried this?

Amitriptyline?? I've had chest muscle/wall pain for awhile and he was saying this helps with nerve pain.

My husband is going to pick up my prescription and I feel like we're wasting our money bc I've already looked up the medicine and saw that it can cause damage to your heart muscle. πŸ™„πŸ™„ all the anti depressants scare me.... idk what to do bc he thinks it will help me

I've been going to a chiropractor 3 days a week bc I found out I have a reverse curve in my neck. Well he suggested St. John's wart and also valerian root....

the natural stuff doesn't scare me as much

Buuuut since we spent $15 on this medication I guess I'll try it out...

Have you guys heard of this or been on it? He said its a older anti depressant

Hello

This is a very common anxiety medication used an awful lot and many have great success in it helping them to make their symptoms more manageable

The worse thing you can do is read the side effects it is enough to put anyone of and every medication even mild one's in fact even natural one's will list some kind of side effect but it does not mean that this is going to happen what it means is if someone has been found to have a particular condition and at the time they were diagnosed if they were taking a certain medication they list it as a possible side effect but usually they cannot 100% say it was anything to do with the medication but have to report it none the less

You also have to remember when they list these side effects the statistics , it can be 1 in a 1000 people or even more , when we have anxiety we tend to miss that bit out but what we do is think we will be that 1 in the 1000 :-/

I would give it a go , tell yourself each day just for today I will take one that way it helps you to feel you are in control , with nearly all meds you may get some very mild side effects till your body adjusts to them and then they pass and the benefits could be very well worth you taking them :-)

Others hopefully will give you some positive reassuring replies and you will feel better about taking them :-)

Let us know how you get on :-)

Take Care x

Hi Elizabeth04, Amitriptyline is an older antidepressant that can work very well for chest wall pain. It was given to me years ago for my Fibromyalgia. It's worth a try. I wish you well.

I been taking 10mg for 2 weeks and I tell you one thing... it's better than Zoloft. Zoloft had me a hot mess. This one I don't even feel anything. I don't even know if it's working. I am taking it for anxiety. So give it a try. Especially if you are taking it for pain. I hear great stories from people that use it for that.

Have you noticed any side effects? And have you had anxiety while on it?

No side effects. This is one of the medication that were in the colum that would work for me since I got a GeneSight test done. But this dose is so low that is not helping with my anxiety at all. It did start to help me with sleep. I heard that for anxiety it needs to be high. Like yo to 100mg.. I'm only on 10mg so yea....

Oh wow yeah mines 10mg as well.. he even told me I could break it in half. Ugh I've had them for almost a week now and still haven't taken it bc I'm scared of medication. Smh! 😫

are you treating anxiety? You should take it. 10 is pretty much nothing. I am 97 pounds and usually medications hit me fast but this one is prettt weak and 10mg

Oh okay. Yes anxiety, also chest muscle pain.

I think that for anxiety is higher. I have read it and my phycologist also mentioned it. So I don't know. I know that if I call the psychiatrist and complain she is going to tell me to go higher but I really just want something new. This medicine is ancient.

Yeah this is like my 5th antidepressant that I've tried. All the rest were ssri.. I guess this one is different

I absolutely hated all the rest. I tried lexapro Zoloft Prozac cymbalta.. now I just take low klonopin everyday.... which does help with my anxiety but idk if it's good to take benzos everyday like that. I'm only 25... I really don't wanna be on anything lol but I guess you gotta do what you gotta do πŸ˜•

I don't want to be on anything neither. Did they do a GeneSight on you? To see which one works best? Switching to so many must be stressful.

No I've never done that.

I haven't taken it yet... I know lol πŸ™ˆ

I started taking the muscle relaxer that they prescribed me awhile back and it seems to help with my chest pain.. so idk if I should try the antidepressant or not. I feel like I've been managing my anxiety okay. Idk

Stick with whatever is working for you then. I just had to call mine to tell her this amitriptyline is not working for anxiety. I realized today that I actually been on it for a whole month and today has been a bad day.

I'm sorry to hear that.

What seems to help my anxiety chill out is exercise. It took me awhile to get out there and go for a run because going out and running made me have anxiety... smh. But once I started I've noticed I've felt a lot better and haven't had to take as much of my klonopin, which I take everyday

I take this for ibs and muscle problems due to anxiety, it takes a few weeks to get in your system, i dont like taking new pills as i have allergies quite a few of them.

Has it helped with your anxiety?

My friend has just been put on it for pain She has had a heart attack so I'm sure they wouldn't have prescribed it unless it was safe for her

Try not to think of it as an anti depressant it's worth giving it a try Good luck
