Today the Wall Street Journal carried an essay in its review section about one woman's experience with anxiety that I found to be extremely interesting and helpful. The author of the essay talks about her personal experience with anxiety. It's been a journey that has spanned more than 20 years She was diagnosed with panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and agoraphobia. She talks about different types of therapy and medications she has tried. She also mentioned some recent techniques and treatments that are on the horizon for people with anxiety disorders. She mentions attention bias modification and trans cranial magnetic stimulation, both of which were new to me. I found encouragement in the fact that she's doing pretty well these days! I'm also excited to know that there is research being done to discover a variety of ways to help people who suffer from anxiety.
