I'm looking for natural remedies and also ways to cope with anxiety that aren't medication. I know that exercise is great... what sorts of things to you guys do?
I was perscribed Zoloft for depression but I just can't deal with the side effects of anti depressants and would rather deal with this in other ways. Thanks
Deep breathing techniques -good for depression it seems to lift it
Tensing and letting go - excellent to do anywhere just push your feet as hard into the ground as you can hold and let go Keep doing it and it really will relax you Ideal for trapped situations like waiting rooms a queue etc
Magnesium - have found that really works
Hope that will will help you and you feel better very soon
Hi I just bought a jar of magnesium tablets from Holland and Barrett I had seen on this forum so many people recommended it so gave it a try I've wasted lots on trying different natural remedies but this definitely works for me
Hi sunshine, keeping your mind busy, setting yourself a goal each day!! Having a hobby you enjoy!! Talking is great therapy, not necessarily about depression either, just chatting and having a laugh with people because that destracts you for a while too. And definitely physical activity if possible. Listening to upbeat music, singing at the top of your voice!! 👍😀
I find rescue remedies really good as like you I can't deal with side effects x

What are rescue remedies? 🙂
You can either get rescue remedy drops to pit on your tongue or rescue remedy pastilles which is what I have and you can get them at most super markets in the medicine section or at Holland and Barrett. They calm you down. x
I didn't think they would work but they really do x
Acupuncture
Reiki
Massage
Hypnosis/meditation
Being around animals, dogs in particular personally work like magic can't explain it just instant calming effect
Personally, I've tried them all but the quickest, cheapest thing that works for me is distraction. Picking something on tele that I know inside out (normally a US sitcom e.g. Friends, Big Bang Theory, Modern Family) something I don't have to pay attention to but just kinda stare at the screen half listening half not. I also do a weird thing where I break down the scenario (if I can figure out what has triggered the anxiety), in my head I go through loads of different doors with different locks, then into a huge store room, select a box put the 'trigger/anxiety' in the box then put that box in lots of others, put it back & reverse the process. There's a lot more detail than that but it's personal preference, it distracts my mind & makes me intensely focus on the minute details of my 'storage room' which calms me down. I do the same when possible with my depression. If it pops in my head again I go back to the door in my mind & think of all the processes I have to go through to think about it again to 'get it out the box'. Hope I don't sound too eccentric, hope it helps someone else though really helps me.
Huge luck & a boat load of calming energies heading your way! Lol
Hi Poppykins, thanks for reminding me of yet another one of the techniques to use. Reiki, for me it worked great. Little strange but the after effects were so calming and relaxing. There are so many things out there to try besides medication. When I was in the hospital, music was used. A woman would come to the room with her guitar and sing softly and gently enough to lull you into a peaceful place and sometimes even fall asleep. Dogs were also use in the hospital setting as well. Wishing you well. x
