The day is cold and dark and dreary
It rains, and the wind is never weary;
The vine still clings to the mouldering wall,
But at every gust the dead leaves fall,
And the day is dark and dreary.
My life is cold, and dark, and dreary;
It rains, and the wind is never weary;
My thoughts still cling to the mouldering Past,
But the hopes of youth fall thick in the blast,
And the days are dark and dreary.
Be still, sad heart! and cease repining;
Behind the clouds is the sun still shining;
Thy fate is the common fate of all,
Into each life some rain must fall,
Some days must be dark and dreary

I just posted this as there are two sides two every story.
It is much the same as "Two men look out through the same prison bars
One sees the mud ..the other sees the stars.
Unfortunately my glass is always half empty it is never half full.

Well it must be poetry day here on the anxiety site.How beautiful.
Unfortunately I am feeling a bit down today.Sadly I too am looking down at the mud and drinking from a half empty glass.
Here in Kent it has been a lovely sunny afternoon but now the bible black night is falling and my spirits are falling.with it
To depression and anxiety BAH BAH BAH!

What a lovely poem. I do love a bit of poetry, I used to write my own, it used to come naturally to me when I was feeling down about something.

Yes I love this poem.As a lad I too used to love writing poetry but mine were never up to this standard.
Longfellow of course is known for other great poems,but this one is special to me.
Unfortunately anxiety has left me unable to concentrate very well but it is said that writing poetry is a great therapy

That really touched me. I hope the rain stops for you and the rainbow appears in the shy and over that rainbow is your sunshine. xx

Thank you for your poetry even if it makes me cry. Probably is the right thing to do.
I fully agree that writing is not only a great but the greatest therapy! No contraindication and all natural!
I wish to remind a nice lyric ... I do not know what the link is but certainly there is one.
Thanks for all.

Fragile
(Sting, 1987)
If blood will flow when flesh and steel are one
Drying in the colour of the evening sun
Tomorrow's rain will wash the stains away
But something in our minds will always stay
Perhaps this final act was meant
To clinch a lifetime's argument
That nothing comes from violence and nothing ever could
For all those born beneath an angry star
Lest we forget how fragile we are
On and on the rain will fall
Like tears from a star like tears from a star
On and on the rain will say
How fragile we are how fragile we are
On and on the rain will fall
Like tears from a star like tears from a star
On and on the rain will say
How fragile we are how fragile we are

When I was young back in the dark ages.At school we used to sing.
Here I sit broken hearted
I've spent my penny
But only farted
There used to be another one about two old ladies locked in the lavatory
but I've forgotten the rest
