Which antidepressant?

Hello all,

It's my first post here, but I've posted in other communities too. I've been dealing with health issues for the past few years. I have Hashimoto but it's not treated yet cause my Thyroid blood test still show normal levels. But it's been a rollercoaster journey going back and forth to the doctors, emergency department, and I still don't get any better. My symptoms seem to get worse (low energy, low heart rate, fatigue, dizziness, brain fog, respiratory and swallowing issue, gastritis, oesophagitis, constant blocked nose, plus another weird unexplainable symptoms such as feeling out of balance, jittery, irritability, generaly unwell). I lost a lot of weight the past 10 months cause I can't eat properly, and I'm afraid to even lose more weight.

Some doctors suggested me to see psychologist or psychiatrist. But I had no idea why I had to do counseling as I don't feel anything problematic with my life. I've never been to any counseling before, so I decided to see one psychiatrist. She wanted me to try Agomelatine, melatonine based antidepressant. Anyone can share their experience with it? I never tried any antidepressants before, could it give relief to my symptoms?? Or is it like a magic pill so you can have your life back? Could you also share which antidepressant that works well for first timers and which to avoid?

I wanted to say hello and welcome you here. I do not believe there is a "magic pill." Personally I am on Prozac and Wellbutrin. It would be so hard to sort out what is caused by mental health issues and what is caused by medical issues for you. I think it is good that you saw a psychiatrist and it is not just a general practitioner who prescribed antidepressants for you. I have not heard of the antidepressant that you were prescribed so I cannot comment on that. it is probably worth giving it a try and seeing if it helps you. Just keep close contact with your psychiatrist to assess your progress.
