Surgery and weight

hi guys. I have a really large ovarian cyst. A whopping 30cm. I was originally told it was most likely cancer until I had a CT scan which confirmed it was not cancer. I also have some fluid on my pelvis. I’m booked into have surgery on the 13th and I am absolutely riddled with fear. I’m currently a size 26 ish due to the swollen belly from the cyst itself. I’ve had my pre op and weight wasn’t mentioned but I know when I speak with the surgeon on surgery day he will have to explain complications due to my weight ect. I’ve never ever had surgery before and I have it in my head that my hearts just going to give in on the table and I’ll never wake up from this. Does anyone have an experience with weight and surgery? Anything that can put my mind at ease? I’ve been living with this cyst for a year and can barely turn over in bed due to pain let alone exercise. I previously had a cyst the same which was exasperated vaginally but it’s grown back. I am so stressed not sleeping worrying im not going to wake up or ever see my partner/family again. As far as im aware they are going to try and do key hole surgery. Sorry if this seems all over the place, my head is west.

Littlechopsxo, that keyhole surgery sounds like a Laparoscopy which is easier on

the body making healing faster. You are going to be okay. If anxiety is super high

before surgery, ask the Anesthesiologist if you could have something before being

wheeled in. It works fast and safely calming you down. Next thing you know the

procedure will be over and YES, you will wake up and be okay.

i had a laparoscopy as well and was absolutely terrified. The main thing is to communicate with your nurses/anesthesiologist that you're beyond anxious. They will help calm you down and talk you through everything. They'll also give you something to calm you down before going back and honestly, that stuff was kinda fun 🤣 next thing I knew I was waking up and confused why they didn't do the surgery! But they did and it had been 3 hours! It's literally so fast. I've had 2 major surgeries now and that's been my experience both times at different hospitals.

communicate! I was terrified of the IV and they even numbed my arm, hid it and wrapped it in a bandage so I couldn't see it. It's ok to be scared, they deal with scared people every day. They will take care of you. One thing my anesthesiologist told me was "my job is to watch you the whole time. I don't take my eyes off you. " They'll be watching you the whole time and ready for anything. You've got this!

Hello this is arful I'm sorry I've no experience on this other than my step dad had key hole surgery no problems heels quicker,it be routine for the surgeons and hospital staff they will have had others your size before I'm sure too so please try and foccus on that and that it be over with sooner than you think and it's always the waiting that's the worst I had health scares before, you will be fine in good hands sending a hug and heeling to you🤗💛✨you can ask them to sedate you a friend even asked for this during a colonoscopy and she got sedated

Keyhole surgery is realitively mild, My gallbladder came out that way and I was pretty much back to normal within a week!

I used to weigh 270 lbs and had surgery at that weight with no complications at all. Do as the doctor says and you should be fine. There are complications with any/all surgery, and yes, you are likely at a higher risk, but laparoscopic surgery is easier on the body and has a faster recovery period. The doctor would have told you already if the risks outweighed the benefits. You’ve got this. Breathe.
