Thin and depressed or extra weight and happy?

Hello everyone.... its been a while since I’ve checked in.

Anywho, I’ve always been one to take care of myself and keep my body thin (not overly thin, buy just right for my build).

Well, last August I was put on Zoloft which tremendously helps with managing my depression. Great results. On the flip side though it triggers my appetite especially my sweet tooth. Now I’m 40 pounds (and counting) heavier and I don’t like that (especially in the presence of the mirror or current photos). On the other hand, I’m much happier, 60 years old, in a good marriage. I have my everyday challenges but overall life is good.

Skinny and depressed or extra weight and happy? I choose being happy. Oh, and no I’m not a gym bunny. Nor do I choose to be.

And that’s life... I can’t have everything I want. But I can choose to be happy even if it means I’ve had to say good-bye to most of my wardrobe I can no longer fit into. Seriously, if mumu’s were stylish on men, I’d be wearing one.

Happy and fat is best. I gained fifty pounds and I love myself on the inside and that's what matters. Mumu's are great and I'm only 46! Mil bought it for me and I love it. 🤭

Melhall. You made my day ❤️. Thank you for the empathetic response. How about we start a Mumu’s for Men movement?!

I just realized I have the mumu on right now. 😂 They have them for men too. They are called tunics or kaftans. Look it up and get you one...... to wear at the house.... alone.

I have a big blue night shirt. It’s my best friend.

Good. Go put it on and eat some ice cream. 🍦😋

By all means come join me. And by the way, Starbucks has an Oreo frapachino that’s absolute Nirvana.

Sounds good. My mumu is on. Get some ice cream. Let's go!

Never heard of Mumu's? x

They are like a giant shirt you pull over to put on. They look so comfy.

Ah. As an overweight person myself I find these types of clothes make you look bigger. More fitted is best as long as they are fitted in the right areas. x

in reply to hypercat54

Yes, but they are like a long gown for at home or sleeping only.

If you're Happy that's Great, but be careful with the weight... AKA diabetes. I've been both neither made me Happy. I Now have diabetes which is Forever. My anxiety had given me a very nervous Stomach which is Not letting me sleep.

One of the most difficult parts of signing on with antidepressants...easily the weight gain. And the doctors are far too generous to not admit it's not just 5-10 lbs. When I was 19, I put on 30....I'm 35 and I've put on 40-50 lbs. Unfortunately, the meds that can help that won't put weight on haven't worked and the meds that help people lose weight "could" combine to cause serotonin syndrome along with other problems. I've opted, like you did, to try to be happier and just deal with the weight. Unfortunately, I've gained weight and had little luck with the happiness part. There are alternatives one could try if they can't opt on for the weight gain w/ meds. Even if they do opt in, exercise helps minimize the gain. It's also worth finding a good dosage that works but doesn't flare up side effects as bad or at all. All up to one's opinion on it really. I wouldn't judge a person either way...whatever makes life feel good, healthy, and great.

You have the right attitude. Be happy first. Maybe you'll find a way to manage the weight; maybe you won't. We'd rather have you with us and happy.

Totally agree. If you are happy in your skin regardless your size then others will be attracted to you because of your positivity. x

I’ve never taken any medicine for my anxiety but I know one of the side effects can be weight gain. If it’s helping you don’t stop taking it, but maybe try to eat more healthy (which also helps with mental health) and with some daily exercise (30 minute walks everyday maybe?). I hope you’re doing well ♡
