Surgery advice

With severe anxiety and constant lightheadedness I am TERRIFIED of having to get my wisdom teeth removed. They hurt so bad and they need removed ASAP but I am terrified to go under anesthesia and how messed up I'll feel after. I don't want to feel how out of it I'll be because I know it will send me into a huge panic and I'll feel SO out of control after waking up from surgery.

Advice please? :(

Rachel, I'm sorry you feel so worried right now but I'm sure it's gonna be ok. You will not remember much from the first couple hours of recovery. You will just wanna sleep and rest. That was the case for me and my daughter who just got it done. Do you have anyone who can drive you home and be with you during the first 8 hours of recovery? I think the fear of this is so much worse than the actual thing!

Yes my mom is going to take me/bring me home/care for me. I'm not afraid of the pain, but afraid of being put under and waking up from it. I do not want to have a panic attack from feeling so out of it :'(

Rachel, I have had many operations and can assure you that although you may feel groggy after op you will still be in control. Nurses are wonderful and will be there for you. I won’t lie you will be uncomfortable as wisdom teeth are quite large BUT the pain is nowhere as bad as toothache. Keep your mouth clean and after a day or so you will feel fine.

Fortunately my wisdom teeth are all pretty much in my mouth -- he said it was going to be a very easy procedure and I should be okay even with just advil. I'm not worried about the pain.. I'm worried about how I will feel after waking up from the anesthesia..

Some dentist will give their patient a valium or something similar to take the morning of the surgery to relax you. I have been offered that or laughing gas.

I'm able to take xanax in the morning before my surgery.. i feel like no amount of benzo will relax me on that day though aha.

Have you had xanax? It knocks me right out.

It knocks me out too! I literally take a teeny tiny piece for a bad panic attack and it does the trick. I probably won’t end up taking a whole one I’d be on my butt.

Good luck with your surgery. I get you being nervous but it will be over before you know it. 😊

if it will help you ....try to have someone with you that you trust, and they can watch over you and then even under anaesthesia...your okay because your friend or family are there for you.

i think my family will be with me so i'll be taken care of, i know that. but with my anxiety i am terrified of feeling out of control.

I recently had some work on my wisdom teeth and was concerned like yourself but I just told the anesthetist all of my worries and he assured me I would be okay, to my surprised afterwards I was fine, quite tiered and a little "jolly" but not freaking out or panicking like I thought I would be.

My advice is just let them know everything before hand.

that's just it.. im terrified im going to be loopy and completely out of it which will spiral me into a severe panic attack and make my dizziness worse. he wasn't worried about my symptoms at the consultation but i feel like no one really understands what i'm going through.. except you guys of course ❤️

You can have them removed using only novocaine. So 1 or 2 at a time and you will be fine, although it is a bit uncomfortable afterwards for a day or so. The top ones are pretty easy, bottom a little more difficult. With novocaine you will not feel any pain. The actual pulling takes about a minute. xx

we're doing IV sedation without laughing gas because i HATE the feeling of that stuff. i'm not even worried about the pain like most normal people would be.. im worried about how out of it i will feel haha.
