Depressed and worried.

Hi all. I’ve been struggling lately with Insomnia and depression. I have a great job and just leased a nice car, but now the stress of keeping up with everything has me up at night and worrying all the time. I had to go home early the other day because I was absolutely exhausted and still couldn’t get enough sleep and am depressed over it. Never been to therapy before but am considering it. I can talk to my family once in a while but I don’t want to burden them too much. Just looking for a little support right now. Thanks for listening.

What is it you are trying to keep up with, if you are able to say. It sounds a bit like you may be feeling overwhelmed and possibly that you have bitten off a bit more than you can chew.

Yes I am a bit overwhelmed. I can handle it with my job but I constantly worry about not sleeping and it affecting my job performance and losing my job. I also live alone and feel isolated a lot.

There are a lot of good suggestions below about sleeping. Do you think worrying keeps you awake? Therapy and antidepressants may be a big help in this regard. They may also help you to deal with the isolation. If you feel in a better place mentally, you will automatically begin to isolate less. This in turn will lead to other activities and friendships. I know this, as it happened to me. Antidepressants and therapy made a world of difference.

I understand and, you're not alone. I have similar symptoms. Personally, therapy does help me so I suggest you look into that as you said.

And, may I suggest some melatonin? I take it every night and fall asleep well. And, it's a natural substance.

I think (I still struggle with my mental illness) you should maybe start at therapy and follow their advice. It's helpful in my world. Just my thoughts. Sending light ✨️

Can you talk to your doctor about something for sleep? Trazodone, Lunesta and I'm right now trying zyprexa. I just took a half of the lowest dose last two nights and it knocked me out and I have bad insomnia. Also the Lunesta 2 or 3 mg works.

Great suggestions! I take zyprexa too and it knocks me out, in a good way. I can't sleep without it. Also, my daughter takes trazadone and it helps her immensely. Thanks Marysblue !

I have trazadone and melatonin...try to stick with the melatonin but sometimes have to take the prescription stuff....if you seek a medication remedy you need to make sure that you can devote at least 7 hours to sleep. I struggle real bad with the hangover effect that both meds give if I don't have enough time to devote to sleep

True, that hangover effect is tough and I'm glad you mentioned it. 🌟✨️

Thank you for all the replies. I am definitely calling my doctor tomorrow and inquiring about what you guys mentioned. I was also advised to look into a sleep study.

There's also a OTC sleep aid, doxylamine. What's in Unisom. It's an antihistamine like Benadryl only more sedating.
