I previously posted about going off zoloft. I went from 150 mg to 100 and down to 50 where I stayed for several weeks. After several days totally off, I am a mess. Going between anger, irritation, and deep sadness. I am now starting back on Zoloft, and trying to understand if I will need zoloft forever.

i think the best course is to get advice from a professional. which is something i am not doing with my meds and i really need to start doing. the advantage is that you take the decesion and give it to the doctor. so even if you feel irretation or anger and the doctor is saying this is normal it will not be bad for you. so talk to your doctor and let him decide for you. if you don trust your doctor change to another one. but don play with meds on your own otherwise you will be in that circle for long. Again, note to self, i should start that too
Hi Geodog, have you found a new doctor yet?? I am not a doctor but according
to my own experience with weaning safely, I think it was done too fast.
I was on Xanax (1 small dose a day) for 30 years. It took my psychiatrist to wean
me off slowly and safely over a 2 year period to get off them completely.
And then once off, another year for my brain to heal and make the hormones on
it's own.
What you seem to be feeling is an exaggerated chemical imbalance which needs to be
handled by a doctor. Slow and Safe is the way to go. Wish you well xx
Hi, Thank you for your post and honesty about your experience of reducing 💊. You probably need to go back to the highest dose that worked before.
There is a saying to go low, go very, very slow 🐌 under doctor's supervision.
We don't know what will happen until we try. Our bodies are so different.
Statistics like 15% of patients needing to stay on maintainace doses of meds for the long term indicate 85% can successfully withdraw.
If you end up in the first group, know that you aren't alone. I am there and glad to be for life since I have hard to treat depression.
Until newer meds like ketamine and psybocillin are commonly available, we pop a pill and hope for better days.
Regards from Oz

Hi,
I have been on Zoloft on and off for about 15 years. I had gone off of it when I felt I could handle my anxiety and panic. Then in December, I had the flu and was hospitalized for pneumonia. Survived that, but when I came home, my panic attacks returned as well as never ending anxiety. I am back on Zoloft and will likely be on it for the rest of my life. Better than panic attacks. It doesn’t help me 100%, but then again, I think it’s just how I’m wired. I would say that if the Zoloft helps you, stay on it.
