How do you cope with the wait time before antidepressants kick in? I am only a week in, but was told to wait 6 weeks and my mood is blah even music is not helping today

Unfortunately it's a matter of having to be patient and wait about 4-6 weeks until it kicks in. Is this your first time taking an antidepressant? Easier said than done, but try to do something to distract yourself, reading or something. Do you have any hobbies? I know it's hard to do anything when depressed. Hope the meds work for you and you get to feeling better!!

I took it for a month in the past and stopped because I though it was not working only for it to kick in two weeks later so I know that it should work again. I will try reading to pass time. Thanks it is nice to hear back from someone who understands.

I totally understand! I can't take meds anymore. Was on them for decades , but they don't work anymore. The last 6 I tried either didn't work at all or gave me bad side effects. I've done TMS 3 rounds and it helped, though the first two were more successful than the 3rd. As I said, hope you begin to feel better before too long!!!

Thanks for your well wishes, I hope you get better successes that in the past. I am sorry that you have had problems with meds after taking them for a while. I will respond here if and when mine kicks in fingers crossed

That’s the hardest part! Do genetic test to find out what kind antidepressant matches you. Good luck 👍🏻

Thanks, Can I just ask my doctor or is there a special procedure for it?

It's just a cheek swab. I had it done a few years ago and frankly for me it was really inaccurate. What showed would work, didn't, and what said wouldn't work had actually been effective for me in the past for a while before they stopped working. Maybe it will be more accurate for you, but I honestly don't hold much creedence in it. But that's just my experience.
