Therapist, Endoscopy, Any experience out there????

Hey friends! I recently caved and went to go see a therapist for my anxiety. I am so glad I did that other than she is quite expensive. She told me that she thinks i'm having gastro issues as well and it's not just the anxiety. Doctors and doctors later, I am scheduled for an endoscopy for Friday to see what is going on.. Does anyone else struggle with gastro issues? I also notice my gastro issues just get worse when I have social events planned for the evenings. Has anyone else had an endoscopy? I am having much anxiety over the fact of, what if I go through this and they can't find anything? I mean there has to be an explanation for all the stomach acid I have and how my acid reflux acts up. Anyone have any experience with this or ANYTHING? Thank you in advance, sweet friends!!!!! <3

Cake. I had two. Two different anesthesia. no after pain at all. Only problem is they didn't discover the root cause which was a hernia. That is a problem because they kept pushing meds and weight shaming even though my diet was good and I was overweight but not obese according to the arbitrary scale. Out patient surgery and a medical device fixed my issue.

There are a few diets that focus on stomach issues. My suggestion for next step is to get a food logging app and record what you eat so you can find a pattern, if there is one. In my case there wasn't because that wasn't the root cause. In hindsight I could have used the logging app to identify that earlier but of course the doc just wanted to push expensive meds. the food app will also help educate on finding good foods too. FitnessPal is probably the best free app right now but there are others.

another comment on the importance of a food log... you notice it is worse before an event. Do you also eat certain foods to "self medicate". If so it could be the foods rather than the event. Something to think about!

Thank you for commenting and bringing awareness to the meds!!! I swear every time I see a doctor they always push this and that prescription and i'm not getting any real answers. Not saying I particularly want surgeries or all of these different things but I just want something to be figured out without me taking medicine for every little thing. That is a good idea getting a food logging app. Wow a medical device helped you? My grandparents are thinking it has a possibility of being a hernia as well. I am just praying they will find something since I am paying a significant amount for this to be done. I hope that your issue is better for you :)

On meds... I know, right! I literally told a doctor she was fired because of how pushy she was with meds. That was cool. 😎The medical device is called linq and it was still very new so he threw it in free. It has been great for me. Not for everyone. But out patient surgery for the hernia (if that is it) is definitely preferable to meds which have side effects and don't even work half the time.

Oooh good for you!! I feel like all I have are just pill bottles after pill bottles of stuff that doesn't work or the side effects are worse and not even fixing the problem!! 🙃 That is interesting! I am going to keep that in mind if that's what it is to do something like that. I would rather get a surgery to get something fixed rather than the meds anyway so no matter what it is hopefully they will be able to do something. I hate the taste of acid!!! Thank you again for commenting. I appreciate it :)

I have terrible acid problems with years and years but am too scared to go to a doctor about it. Watching diet helps, but I tend to indulge too much on the wrong foods too often. I live on Gaviscon liquid by night

See my advice above about a food log. It really does help make you aware. Then you can go to the doctor with more information.

Hi there,

I notice you say that your gastro issues get worse when you have social events planned for the evening. Are these events you want to attend? Do you get over excited on the run up? or do you dread them?

Sometimes if you are afraid in crowds, or dread events, you may get this, but it is something you need to lay out in front of your doctor, because to me it seems something psychological may be going on.

I'm not a doctor, but I get something akin to this, and for me it's my adrenal glands acting up and putting me into Fight or Flight mode, because I have CPTSD amongst other things, so my adrenal glands are on full alert all the time. My son this morning came into the kitchen and nearly caused a accident with hot food, because I didn't hear him!

Cheers, Midori

Mainly it's me dreading them but I just don't understand why there's such a problem with gastro issues. I am on anxiety meds and my therapist said there is something else she thinks that is going on when it comes to my gastro. I am aware that therapists aren't doctors, I am just trying to get to where I don't make myself throw up and i'm able to swallow food down. I think you are right though, I do have some psychological issues going on for sure. Thank you for commenting :)

I have had upper GI issues for quite a while. Actually had another endoscopy today(have had several) as follow up to one in October because I wasn't feeling better. I also have other issues going on and had an MRI a few weeks ago. I know what you mean about the meds. Many of them don't work for me and they keep wanting to try something else. The procedure is no big deal. You're out for about 30 minutes, sometimes a scratchy throat after, but not always. They will usually take small biopsies to test the tissue for bacteria(one is H Pylori which is a common cause of GERD) and possible other abnormalities. If they find nothing, keep pushing for answers! That's what I have been doing to get to the root of my other upper abdominal issues going on; I have been feeling like crap for 2 months and it is severely impacting my quality of life. Get second and third opinions if necessary. Hope you are able to get answers!!
