I know I am free to change psychologist, but does the psychologist have the same freedom to interrupt and tell me I should try with another one?
I’m confused about how to behave when I’m there.. the psychologist makes me feel wierd and always ask if I really want to be there, and says she is having a problem connecting with me…
Hi. So yes that is a possibility. My past therapist told me that she couldn't work with me anymore, and ended it for me. You could ask if they have any suggestions for a different one.
That was it for me. She didn't recommend anyone. I did keep up with my psychiatrist for meds. Yeah doesn't hurt to ask. Good luck
Oh. I feel you. Exactly, and right now I think she’d be relieved if I did hehe but first I will try another approach to her (fingers crossed I’m strong enough to do so)
I think it would be in your best interest to change. Some people we connect with better than others. You can’t grow and get better if not. She has every right to suggest that if she feels you’d be better off with another doctor and doesn’t feel she’s helping you. Are you following her recommendations? If you are not she also has a right to stop seeing you. I’d leave and find someone else if possible. It could make a big difference if you are open to it and compliant.
I would think she recognised that you are feeling unsure and possibly uncomfortable with her, and If she is suggesting a change, it is probably because she feels another Psychologist might suit you better. I would think about changing.
Cheers, Midori
Thanks for your replies. I managed to let her know how I feel. She told me they already was talking about suggesting someone else that could help finding another therapy style that might fit better. Although, not yet. We will see how things are when the current one is back from summer vacation. Since I’m now able to express my needs (I’m glad I managed even I felt quite anxious). Could also be that it is the therapy style and not the person.
