I haven’t been diagnosed with a personality disorder but my father has borderline personality disorder. I don’t know if there are similarities or not.

What I do know is that I am very happy that you are accepting this information in stride and trying to get the type of help you need!

Thankyou Rafiki11 for your support it is very much appreciated. With all personality behaviour disorders the symptoms are all to similar. 🙂

Hi l have a diagnosis of Borderline personality disorder the new *name for it is unstable emotional personality disorder l find depending on who you speak to you they may use one or the other l think they changed it because of the term borderline

When l got diagnosed many years ago l was referred to do a form of therapy DBT dialectical behavioural therapy you can look it up if your interested in that type of help or support. I found that l had to really learn about myself and no my triggers learn to reflect on my reactions to certain situations but most of all learn to accept myself

Surround yourself with kind supportive people l think it will help l don’t have any family support due to the relationships making my mental health worse. I just want to say your an individual so when you read info take the bits which are useful for you

Take care

Thankyou shanpa69 for your comment, and yes I was getting confused by the two names for the same thing . I'm reading as mush as I can and having counselling but she is not trained in behaviour disorders . I must admit I don't really know my self which I'm a little ashamed to say at the age I am . It's very interesting to see all my personality raw and very vulnerable. Along with menopause depression and anxiety. I also think I have some trauma going on to ..my head is spinning. 🤕🙂

2Grandmar l can totally relate to what your saying as we must be a similar age l still don’t know a lot about myself having a personality disorder is very challenging because our thought processes get very muddled and how we feel one minute is not how we feel the next l know that l will often say one thing but something different will going on in my head l don’t know if you are interested in doing DBT ?l done it many moons ago but l still use elements of it in my everyday life l am now waiting for therapy for complex trauma so l understand when you say there is a lot going on please don’t be ashamed about knowing yourself as it’s hard and lm sure you beat yourself a lot already l know l do

It’s also hard if your having counselling already they usually recommend a break before you engage in a different form of therapy

I also suffer from anxiety and depression so we have a lot in common l don’t want to ask you to many questions

How do you feel about your new diagnosis?

You don’t have to answer if you don’t want to share

I'm not sure if I'm honest and I found the doctor that diagnosed me not very helpful. In fact gave me no help other than saying call mind which I did . The lady that answered the phone was not very helpful either . I'm 50 and if I'm truly honest I'm very confused about the whole thing. I have read lots but it's really good to hear , that others have it to and I can talk to them . Not that I want us all to have this but we do 🙂

It's extremely unusual to be diagnosed with BPD in middle age. I would question this diagnosis if I were you.

Perhaps just a proper diagnosis and not newly presenting symptoms. BPD is tough. I’m just having my meds increased and I’m a bit worried about it, but lamotragine has truly changed my life!

Hi 2Grandmar l was meant to respond again yesterday but got side tracked l just wanted to say it’s really hard when you get a diagnosis and your struggling and your looking for help ? I don’t know what your GP is like but you could ask them to refer you to someone who can help with treatment for your personality disorder .. l have tried mind before but it is often hit and miss

I just wanted to say if you ever want to message me you can private message me l am 2 years older then you so understand the frustration of what your going through

Take care hope you manage to have a good day
