Feeling of uncertainty

NiBa5 profile image
19 Replies

I've been on recovery from the severe discontinuation syndrome from the long term use of antidepressant for a long time. Brain recovery from a brain trauma is extremely slow and terribly hard.

I'm better since I'm not how I was 2 years ago when I was in such a grave condition......but im still not myself yet.

But nobody teaches me how my brain or myself will be back to normal. It cause me a fear and a feeling of uncertainty. I have no help....fighting alone

No I am not on any drugs atm How long did you go cold turkey when you came off the drug you were on ?

I cannot say how long but it took a long time. I'm no longer suffering any severe withdrawal symptom but my brain is still not totally ok.....

Do you think that is due to stopping cold turkey?

Cold turkey gradually subsided. But I think SSRI messed up my neurotransmusdion in my brain pretty badly.

I believe you can get better but it takes time everyone is different , why didn't you go back on the drug you stopped cold turkey and then taper off it gradually ?

I’m sorry you are going through this. I can imagine it must be hard.

I just started taking lexapro a week ago. I cut my 5mg pills in half and throw away the other half. I can already feel it working and i can tell when the dose wears off. I think that I need it because my anxiety is making it hard for me to get anything done.

I think you are brave to wean off and I want to encourage you to press on. You are not alone. Is there an addiction support group you could join? They would have more advice for you.

Sorry I’m not more helpful but we’re here to

listen and talk. You’re not alone.

Hello

Hugs back at ya!

I just read an article on discontinuation syndrome. It says that discontinuation syndrome is different from addiction. Unlike addiction, you just need to wean off in a gradual way - a process that takes weeks to months. If you haven't already done so, you can get Lexapro in liquid form so you can adjust the dosage in tiny amounts and lower very gradually.

Also, it says that for discontinuation syndrome, if you take the meds again, the symptoms will immediately ease. If re-taking the meds does not produce immediate relief, it could mean a relapse of anxiety/depression rather than discontinuation syndrome.

I hope you figure things out. Just don't give up!

Thank you for responding. Withdrawal isn't so simple as articles talk about. That's what I've learned. Our brain is stubborn and so complicated.

But I don't suffer any serious withdrawal symptom any longer now.

I hope you're doing ok. Hugs.

I'm sure you know yourself best. Just follow your instincts and do what works for you. Just don't give up!

Even on such a small dose of Lexapro, I am feeling weird. Took 2.5mg 2 hours ago and have been feeling jittery, pumped full of nervous energy. Perhaps better than the painful, nerve-wrecking anxiety I had been dealing with, but I don't like it. It's a weird chemical reaction. Our brains are sensitive to these drugs.

SSRI stimulates receptors of neurons....I hope your med will work for you to improve your conditions.

I know brain recovery from a brain trauma takes time.....I'm very patient but it's iften stressful and frustrating.
