Hello all, I am new here and wanted to say hi.

I had an undiagnosed heart issue a few months back that felt like a heart attack. After getting surgery I started to have increased anxiety and hypochondria. I have usually taken Xanax for the anxiety but my doctor didn't want me taking it every day so he prescribed me Zoloft. I stopped it after two weeks, had horrible side effects, and made my anxiety 100 x worse. I am now trying to find a more natural approach to deal with my anxiety. It's getting better but still creeps up out of nowhere and sometimes I need to take the Xanax to get rid of it. Acupuncture, CBD oil, diet, meditation, journaling. Does anyone have any tips on how to stop an attack in its tracks. I'll have a few good days then I will have anxiousness without reason. I'm praying this gets better. I feel frozen in fear of an anxiety or panic attack if something upsets me.

Thank you :)

Hey welcome to the group! I used to be on zoloft as well but now take Effexor.

Deep breathing usually stops anxiety in it’s tracks and 54321 grounding (you can google it) and accepting the way you are feeling helps too and knowing anxiety will not harm you!

Hi there!

I am on Zoloft for the third time in my life and I can assure you that it works overtime. It just has to build up, and you might need to adjust the dose. For someone who has more severe anxiety usually, 100 mg is best. But your doctor will decide. I've been given Klonopin for anxiety, but I take only half a pill before bed when I feel like my sleep anxiety is present. Other times I refrain from taking benzos as they are addicting, cause severe withdrawal symptoms and it is just bad to rely on drugs solely to fix the issue. I agree with the commenter below, box breathing or 4-7-8 breathing 3 times a day with 10 min meditation and other relaxing practices have helped me a lot. Also, I work out 6 days a week. Even when I do not feel like it. Even if it is just a 20 min walk. And be patient. It takes time and effort. I have depression on top of anxiety, so I know it gets hard at times. But it always passes. Try to relax as much as you can. Every time you feel tense notice it and try to relax that part of the body. If possible at all, for a few days or weeks, try to stay away from stressful situations. That will help to speed up the progress. Good luck! Feel better.

Playing music really helps me calm my anxiety. I like to sing and play guitar! Sometimes listening to music helps me too! But if it’s severe I have to participate in listening to the music. I like to dissect the songs (so like noticing the drums, the guitar, the bass, the vocals, the lyrics) and watching them come together.

Also journaling helps me slow my thoughts down, but sometimes if I’m overwhelmed it can make them worse, so i like to write poetry too, because than I’m focusing on trying to write rhymes.
