Meds

No meds seem to work, I’ll think they’re working at first but once I’m on something for about a month I’ll notice that I’m in a sort of bubble I can’t break out of. The feeling that you’re heavily medicated and can’t properly function. On top of that my social skills get worse ( I already have trouble communicating, but my meds made me such a zombie I wouldn’t communicate at all) which in turn makes me withdraw more and just makes my mental health worse. I don’t want to blame my meds for my social problems, I know there’s things I need to work on. But it actually Made it so much worse. Medication takes away my personality and I don’t understand it. I know this is advice better suited for a dr. But they always just want to try another med or change the dosage when I need to work at the root of my problems.

thank you for your response. I’m honestly afraid to just start another med, every time there are side affects and a major difference in my personality. My current prescription is abilify, I know it’s not right for me based on a lot of different factors.

I've been on antidepressants and anti anxiety meds since I was about 28.

In my experience as a Therapist and patient, you probably know they take several weeks to take full effect. If they start making you worse then call your physician for advice on whether you need to titrate off or stop altogether at once. It's time to try a new medication. It can take a few try's of different medications to try the one that works for you. I just went through that with Lexapro aka escitalopram. I became almost immediately worse. I contacted my nurse who didn't listen and raised it against my better judgement. I plummeted into feeling suicidal. I called her and told her I started to titrate myself off, which means cutting back slowly and not stopping altogether for side effects reasons, which can be dangerous. I insisted I was coming off this medicine. I wanted back on Cymbalta which I had been on for years and I had the most help on however took a med break because being on it so long it had started to lose its effectiveness. She put me back on the lowest dose and titrated me up to 60. I feel so much better.

*I just want to add some important facts for everyone regarding your treatment.

1. You know how you feel. You and only you know your body best. If you feel worse immediately meaning a week or two upon taking a medicine, contact your doctor or nurse practitioner to make a plan to titrate off.

2. Most importantly...be an ***ADVOCATE FOR YOURSELF****

I cannot stress this enough. Doctors and nurses are not perfect as in any occupation. If your gut tells you your relationship with your presciber or Therapist is not right I'm going to give you 2 websites to find a provider in your area. These are reputable websites:

***Psychology Today*** has *Therapy Finder* which will find Psychiatrist's, Nurse Practitioner's and Therapist's. You can send them an email right from their page and it includes their specialty, address and phone number should you choose to call and not email.

This is not an app however Google search and it'll pop up. That's how I found my new Therapist whom is the best at helping me with my anxiety and depression. I also have a Nurse Practitioner who now knows I have a voice and I use it.

*** Healthgrades*** is a downloadable free app to also help you find Therapist's, Nurse Practitioner's, Psychiatrist's as well as any other doctor in any field. There are reviews & sanctions as well as a bit of a bio.

For both you put in your zip code to find one in your area.

For both of these if you find someone you think you may be compatible with you can Google then for more reviews.

💪YOU and ONLY YOU are your own ADVOCATE. USE YOUR VOICE 💪

Feel free to ask away if you need help or have questions.

That’s a lot of really good advice, thank you so much! Honestly I weened myself off the medication because of feeling worse. I should of talked with my doctor, but I’m not sure I can handle the side effects of being on medication it’s very overwhelming. This was my first week off and honestly there’s a noticeable improvement that feels much better for my health. I think I need to do better about advocating for myself like you say and possibly find a therapist whose willing to work with me a little more.
