Think Outside "The Box".

Hello All open- minded friends out there !! I just wanted to share some ideas about coping with crippling Depression that helps ME to cope with it. First i want to say that there's nothing EASY about depression, it can ruin you if you dwell in it for too long. The one thing that has helped me immensely with it was developing a "indifferent" attitude towards depression, a sarcastic attitude towards it and all the Bullshit that life throws at you. I had to learn how to laugh at myself and my shitty life. I couldn't take antidepressants so i gave myself no other options but to learn what worked for ME. Even today i still get depressed quite often, but i research other people's stories of sufferings and how they overcame it all. Like the guy who spent 43 years locked away in solitary confinement, or the holocaust survivors memoir's. Sometimes it helps to use "silly-sarcasm" towards your shitty situation. I used to be afraid to speak because people might think my ideas were CRAZY, now i enjoy throwing people off by saying things that most people want to say but fear to ruin their serious reputation. Most times they crack up laughing, and i think to myself " that just might of made that person's day?" And when someone says "you crazy" i say thank you for the compliment. I could be mean and reply " i know i am, but what's your excuse?" Lol. We have to try to make light of your situation, of yourself. Life passes us by quickly, don't go through it trying to please everyone's ear or their impression of you. Tell yourself, FU*K IT!! I'm going to LIVE no matter what ANYONE thinks of me because the only opinion that matters at the end of the day is MINE. And then just relax and go about your day with love of who and what you are, NO MATTER WHAT YOUR GOING THROUGH!! Poke fun at your situation when life is trying to tear you down. Sometimes life will win, and sometimes YOU WILL,. The goal is to win more times than life's daily bullshit can handle ! Turn the table to adversity and lighten it up with a dose of always good sarcastic humor. Go ahead and give it a try! You'll thank yourself for it.

Thank you for your post. You'll probably get zapped for your language (HU rules prohibit profanity) but I appreciated your sentiment. I'm originally from New Jersey and sarcasm is in my DNA. There's no way around it for me. Add that to my innate irreverence and I make some people laugh all the time. Then there are the others who I offend every time I open my mouth.

It has been a wonderful, VITAL, tool for me in dealing with my anxiety/depression/PTSD. If I don't laugh at myself and situations sometimes, I'd cry myself to death.

Believe it or not I do try to keep in mind how some folks react to me and am blindsided occasionally when they are offended. But I can only do the best I can. That's one of the things I love about this site. There's room for most everyone (who follows the guidelines).

Let's all give each other space to think outside the box today.

Thank You. And what happens if you get zapped? Lol. I probably assumed that because i tried covering up the big "F" word, that the "B*ll*hit " wouldn't bring as much attention? Lol Ooops!

You may get under the the radar if no one reports you. If you really wanted to you could edit the post yourself and take out the offending words. It's up to you. The language police may be busy at the moment.

Lol Thank You. I didn't know i could edit on here and I'll most likely give it a try. I also appreciate " The language police" sarcasm. That was good!

Like I said my irreverence gets in my way occasionally as well.

I've been trying to cobble together a non-medicine treatment for my depression and always on the lookout for different approaches that work.

Thank you for sharing your perspective!

Take care

:)

I love this !!!!!! Sometimes I do that too, laugh at the whole shitty situation of depression and the funny things I think and say. It wasn't funny at all !!!! years ago ,but now I'm much better I can laugh and it helps life my mood. Laughter is sooooooo good to help lift depression,I think it actually does something to our brain,it's a necessity !!! Hope you continue laughing ,I'll try 🌈🤣

Thank You . Your absolutely right! I'm still a target for depression, and at times it gets the best of me. But i make an effort to "make light" of my situation or to show other people that there's no need to go through this life being so stiff and serious all the time, and it's okay to let your guard down and loosen up a bit! My God! Lol. Life is too short and always having to appear one way or another takes waaaay to much effort for me . I wear my personality where it can't be hidden and for everyone to see, that i have nothing to hide. Mumma_h , you just keep on laughing whenever you can.

I think it takes courage to laugh in the face of adversity. Keep forging your own path with your own brand of bravery and humor.

Hello Booklover0219, Thank You ,. I know that we all have our "personal" choices of dealing with depression or the way we choose to deal with other people or if we are too self-conscious to show the world who and what we are,. And that's okay. I can only speak for myself and what works for me. But for those who have suffered with feelings of inferiority, low self-worth, or being accepted by family or friends for who they are, can ALL benefit from the choice to stop hiding who they are. There is massive amounts of freedom and peace IF or when "anyone" can just let go of the need to fit in. ( sorry so long a reply, i get carried away frequently Lol )
