I believe that training your brain is key, I have been able to make great progress because of it.
It's much easier said then done
Actually, I have found that once I make up my mind, to succeed, "no matter what" it becomes easy. For me half measures are a guarantee of failure that feeds the cycle.
Of course, I have to believe that I can do it. Sometimes I have to make myself believe, meaning I will not engage in any thought to the contrary.
I do that by shouting down any negative thoughts. I don't recall where I learned this stuff, perhaps AA, or YouTube.
So you are calm in every situation? You must be the next buddha. For somebody to be totally calm there needs to be no thought whether positive or negative.
No of course not, far from it. What I am is much better than I used to be. To me, that is the goal.
It takes time you progress day by day no instant fix you have to work at it every day like 40 year's in my case. And yes in meditation I can stop thinking,. If I can you can !!
