Anxiety and depression.

I'm really hoping this helps. I really have no reason to be depressed. I have a great job, my own home and car. But I do have a lot of trauma from my childhood and past. I'm always overthinking and just feeling down. Beating myself up and just not having as much confidence as I know I can have. It's a daily struggle.

I have similar struggles. But I think childhood traumas or past traumas are very profound. It shapes the way we perceive the world. And I think we tend to downplay how significantly it affected us. Might be helpful to address those past traumas and acknowledge their impact?

You are a wonderful person and don’t deserve to feel that way about yourself!

Thank you!! I really appreciate the feedback and do also believe that childhood traumas do not set a good blueprint for our lives, I have come a long way, but still the anxiety and depression I think will always be with me. If I could find a way not to beat myself up all the time, that would be a great improvement.

I understand what you’re saying and I’m sorry that happened to you. I too have childhood trauma....my mother was an abusive sociopath. Depression is chemical, but also extenuating circumstances in life equally affect us, and if we already are predisposed with the disease of depression, having other issues such as grief, loss, abuse, and trauma, makes our life even more of a challenge. Often people here talk about having great childhoods, and don't understand why they would be depressed..It’s because they are, it's no different than if you have diabetes or heart disease....you need to treat it and manage your life with it. When it comes to dealing with trauma and abuse...I had to go to therapy, I did group therapy and one on one....for decades. So there is no quick fix unfortunately. But when I finally started on the 'next gen. SSRI's', there is a notable difference for me. Sadly not everyone gets any benefit from antidepressants, and as I said....it is only a help, not a cure.

You don't need a reason to be depressed....it's as disease. It's a chemical imbalance that just makes you feel sad. It's not your fault, you did nothing to cause this, it just is.
