For the past week i’ve been waking up practically drenched in sweat. This has never happened to me prior to last week but I am a hypochondriac and my mind is jumping to the worst case scenario. I’m sleeping in a cool room and I haven’t changed any of my routine recently. I am so scared that I have lymphoma or some type of crazy infection. I called my doctor but he isn’t able to see me until Monday. I’m sending myself into a depression by thinking and worrying about this so much. Has anyone else experienced this?

This can be caused by numerous things, so don't be like me and assume the worst. Oh and anxiety is actually one of them!

I don’t know how old you are, but could it be perimenopause?

iamtina, when in the throws of severe anxiety, the fight or flight response can

can over activate our nervous system to go into hot sweats and/or cold chills.

This is quite common from our over stimulation to stress. The odor of the sweat

has a stronger odor due to the stress hormones mixed with perspiration.

It may come and go, switch from hot to cold. Using relaxation techniques can

help lower your anxious response as well as making sure you are well hydrated

to replace the perspiration. Allow your doctor to diagnosis you on Monday. Meanwhile,

please take away the catastrophic self diagnosis. This does us no good except to increase

our anxiety. Let us know what your doctor says in a few days. I had this as well at one time

It's going to be okay. :) xx

When you experienced this, how long did it last?

tina, A few minutes, first thing upon awakening and then on

and off throughout the day at times. Sometimes medication

can cause it as well. Since I'm off benzos, I no longer get the sweats

or chills. Anxiety presents in many different ways. It shall pass xx

Dear Tina, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Are you having dreams associated with your night sweats? Do you feel anxious when you wake? I don't know if you're on any psych meds but sometimes there are side effects that cause this, or it could be anxiety. Anything new happening in your life that is causing you anxiety? You'll be fine - don't "sweat" it!
